Franchising operates in a dynamic environ-ment, with new issues and challengesemerging, including: globalisation, copingwith competition, disclosure, industryregulation, managing relations withfranchisee associations, franchiseerecruitment & market saturation.Against this backdrop, the IFRC wasestablished in 1993 by Professor JohnStanworth (Director of the Future of WorkResearch Group at the University ofWestminster), supported by Brian Smith (ex-BFA Chairman, franchisee, franchisor andauthor), and Chair of its Steering Group.
