Meet the Council Members of The City of Aberdeen
The City of Aberdeen has launched a new logo entitled “Aberdeen, Home of Opportunity”. This logowill be used on most City correspondence and with most City signage, but will not replace the officialCity Seal. The new logo did not just appear by accident, its development was very carefully thought out.Mayor Bennett and the City’s Economic Development Commission collaborated over a year ago todevelop a new logo that would hopefully capture the essence of the Aberdeen and encourage investmentin our City. A group of citizens and businesspersons met on several Saturday mornings to identify whatthey wanted to portray via a new logo. These sessions were facilitated by local businessperson and EDCMember, Matt Christ of Brand3Design.The group explored multiple concepts and many designs, but ultimately agreed on what is now the newlogo. It was important that in spite of all of the growth potential due to BRAC that we never forget thatAberdeen is home to approximately 14,000 people. Hence the “Home” as a key part of the tag line. Thegroup also wanted to show that Aberdeen is encouraging investment in our City which also is reflected inthe tag line. And, it’s no accident that the colors chosen are those of the AHS Eagles. We hope that you like the new logo and enjoy seeing it pop up all over town.Councilwoman Ruth Ann Young resides in Aberdeen with her husband,William. They have been married for forty-five years and have a daughter,Elisabeth. Councilwoman Young graduated from Lycoming College with aBachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Johns Hopkins University with aMaster’s Degree in Counseling, and received a Certificate of AdvancedStudy in Counseling and Therapy from Johns Hopkins University in 1990.Her career includes two years as a teacher at Campbell Central School inCampbell, New York, four years as a teacher in the Harford County PublicSchools, as well as twenty-seven years as a guidance counselor in theHarford County Public Schools before retiring in 2000.
