The Hubble Story
It all began back in 1946 as adream — Lyman Spitzer's dream— to build a Large SpaceTelescope. Yet, it would be another 21 years before NASA could pursueDr. Spitzer's dream.Deployed on April 25, 1990,Hubble Space Telescope markedthe beginning of an exciting newera in astronomy. In the decadesince Hubble first turned itspowerful eyes on the universe, ithas unraveled age-old mysteriesand forced astronomers to rethinklong-held beliefs. From proto-galaxies at the farthest reaches of the universe to proto-planetarydisks surrounding young stars inour own galaxy, Hubble'sdiscoveries raise at least as manyquestions as they answer – even asthey help us understand our universe and our role within it.
Where we are and how we gothere.
