same as free weights, as the weight is
stabilized, and there is some degree
of leverage in the machine’s design.
Nevertheless, I feel pretty good hav-

While this fun holiday brings sweet
treats for children of all ages, it also is
important to remember good nutrition
before eating the bucket full of candy.
Obesity is a growing epidemic in our
country for both children and adults. It
is the consumption of “empty calories”
that greatly contribute to this epidemic.
Empty calories are found in sugary
foods and drinks. One small candy bar,
or a few hard candies or chews a day, is
about 100 calories. Here are a few quick
tips to help control the consumption of
treats on Halloween:
Eat a healthy meal before venturing
out. A well-balanced meal consisting of
lean proteins, whole grains, fruits and
vegetables will fill up tummies and pre-
vent overindulging on sweets.
Keep the pillowcases and grocery
sacks at home! Use a smaller container
when collecting goodies and once it is
full call it quits.
Halloween candy should be con-
sumed in moderation. Help children
