Nationwide hiring slows due to holidays.
Job openings across the U.S. decreased 4.4%rom November. “It’s typical or the job market to slow down in the last weeks o the year,”explained Gautam Godhwani, CEO o SimplyHired.com. “Employers oten nd it easier topause hiring and resume ater the holidays.” Despite the month-over-month decline, themarket remained improved rom last year, up 69.4%.
Two new top nationwide employers.
Two Fortune 500 companies, Hospital Corporationo America (HCA) and Advance Auto Parts, emerged on the Top Hiring Companies,Nationwide list this month. HCA was third with 2,508 job openings and Advance Auto Partswas ourth with 2,096 job openings.
Financial jobs continue to gain traction.
Although the majority o occupational categoriessaw a decrease in job openings or the month, nancial and accounting jobs had a substantial37.3% growth. This kind o growth at a typically slow time o year indicates that while thenancial industry has struggled to recover, it is making steady progress.
Seasonal boost in hospitality industry.
Although job openings in most industries declinedthis month, the hospitality industry showed a notable increase o 8.7%. The industry, whichincludes restaurants, hotels and similar businesses, likely experienced growth due to theholiday season.
Employment Impact: Year End
Hiring declines in most industries.
12 o 16 industries decreased in job openings inDecember, mirroring the 17 o 24 occupation categories that also experienced a decline. Thislull in hiring is a continuation o the trend seen in November, when our non-retail industriesposted negative changes in job openings.
Job seeking slows.
Although nearly all metros posted a negative change in job openings, job competition improved or remained constant in most metros. This trend suggests thatthe number o active job seekers may have decreased temporarily in conjunction with thedecrease in available jobs.
