Seasons are valid statewide, excepton federal and state sanctuaries orrefuges, unless otherwise authorized.
Legal EquipmentShotgun Season
– Shotgun only,10-gauge or smaller; shells containingshot size 2 to 7½ only, slugs are illegal.It is unlawful to have a loaded shotgun(magazine included) in a vehicle whileon a public road.
– Longbows,compound bows and crossbows arelegal. Arrows must have a sharpenedhunting head, with a blade of atleast 7/16-inch radius, or a blunt(bludgeon) head, with a diameter of atleast 9/16-inch.
Unlawful Devices and Methods
Use of the following is unlawful:electronic calls, visible laser or light-projecting sights, baiting game birds,and live decoys.
Spring Turkey Permit
A spring turkey permit allows the takeof turkeys with archery equipmentduring the archery season and with ashotgun during the shotgun season.A hunter may have as many as threespring permits. Permits must besigned by the permit holder and may not be transferred or loaned.
One male or bearded female turkey per permit.
A Nebraska Habitat Stamp is valid forall hunting during the calendar yearas dated. It is required for all turkey hunters except residents under age16, deployed military permit holders,some holders of veteran and seniorpermits, and limited landownerpermit holders.
There is no minimum age to huntturkeys in Nebraska.
Hunters under the age of 12, whenhunting with a shotgun permit, mustbe accompanied by a person age 19or older who has a valid Nebraskahunting permit.
Hunters ages 12 through 29 must havecompleted firearm hunter educationwhen hunting turkeys with a firearmor crossbow. An Apprentice HunterEducation Exemption Certificateis available for those who have notcompleted hunter education. Huntersunder the age of 12 and those usingthe exemption certificate must beaccompanied by a licensed hunterage 19 or older. The accompanyinghunter, if age 19-29, must be certifiedin hunter education. Bowhuntereducation is not required for huntingturkeys.
Thirty minutes before sunrise tosunset. Before sunrise, it is unlawfulto take or attempt to take any turkey perched in a tree.

The head, beard or one leg mustremain naturally attached to thecarcass until the turkey is deliveredto a commercial processing facility or personal abode of the possessor.Any bearded female turkey takenduring the spring season must havethe beard naturally attached. If thepermit holder does not accompany theturkey, the cancelled permit must beattached to the carcass of the turkey.
At the end of the season, you may beselected to receive an e-mail survey questionnaire, which will be used todetermine hunter success and totalharvest. Please help us by returningthe questionnaire. Information ondetermining the age of your turkey isprovided on the back of this sheet.
Obtain permission before huntingon private land. It is unlawful tohunt turkeys within 100 yards of anoccupied dwelling or feedlot withoutspecific permission for that purpose,and you may not shoot from the right-of-way of a public road.
Hunter orange is not required duringthe spring turkey season.
It is unlawful for any person otherthan the successful permit holder topossess a turkey or any portion of it.However, any person may possessany portion of the turkey received asa gift, provided a statement of suchgift is available for inspection. Thestatement shall include: hunter’s nameand telephone number, species andquantity of animal, and, if transferredby gift, signature of donor, name of recipient and date of transfer. There isno restriction on the length of time aturkey may be possessed.
