The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) estimates that Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy resources include approximately 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of gas. These estimates may underestimate the resource potential since most offshore areas outside the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska have been under moratoria for decades. Exploration and production of U.S. offshore resources is essential—providing the revenues, jobs and energy our nation needs to meet future demand.
