Why Reading Is So Important

The more you read the more you exercise your brain. If you want to be
able to think well and to learn more, you must read every single day. So
why should we make a daily habit to reading? Here is why. Take for
example television and reading a book. With a television you just sit and
enjoy what is on the screen without a lot of mental focus. But with reading
a book you are more aware of the present moment and you are with your
mental acidity of thoughts. When you concentrate as you are reading
something it will involve words, images, thoughts, imagination, visualization
and critical thinking and opinions within your mind. All of these skills can
be developed as you keep reading if one skill is practiced over and over.

Training Your Mind to Read

Training our mind to read began with the first years of “schooling.” I know
now that each grade level I moved up helped me to stretch my skills to
becoming a much better reader.

Reading for some people comes easily even at a young age possibly back
in first grade. If that was the case then reading probably just came into
your life and stayed with you.

I~ on the other hand had a comprehension problem and did not learn to
love to read until I was much older in life. To be exact, I was reading self
help books to help me learn how not to be a codependent. This was well
into the age of my 20’s. This began my love of reading.

Now, back to the topic of training your mind, most people spend their lives
being manipulated by others. They are told what to do, what to read, what
to think, how to spend their money, and what they should and should not
aspire to be in life. In my opinion, if you want to live well, you need to be

able to use your mind well. In order to be able to concentrate, to solve

problems to understand complex ideas, and to think clearly you need to
read each day. All of these skills make life easier for you. How do you
know what you like unless you try it first, right?! These skills help to make
good decisions, understand current events’, pick a career, create great
friendships, manage your money, and appreciate music, art, history, math
and so much more. So, the bottom line is that the key to developing your
reading skills is to enjoy it. If you are motivated to read in the first place
then everything else falls into place as it should.
