Voterama in Congress

Here are area lawmakers’ decisions on major roll-call votes in

Washington for the week ending Jan. 7.

U.S. House
Legislative-Branch Cuts: Members voted, 410-13, to cut $35.2 million,
or less than 1 percent, from the $4.6 billion legislative-branch budget. This
is a cut of 2.6 percent in the House’s $1.37 billion share of that yearly
budget. A yes vote was to cut members’ office allowances, committee bud-
gets, and other accounts. (H Res 22)
LaTourette: Yes Fudge: Yes

112th Congress Rules: Members adopted, 240-191, GOP-authored rules

for the 112th Congress. A yes vote backed rules that, in part, require enti-
tlement-spending rises, but not tax cuts, be offset elsewhere in the budget
and upgrade transparency practices at House committees. (H Res 5)
LaTourette: Yes Fudge: No

Congressional Health Coverage: Members defeated, 191-240, a Demo-

cratic bid to require members to publicly disclose whether they will remain
in the taxpayer-subsidized health plan for lawmakers and millions of federal
workers. A yes vote was to add the requirement to H Res 5 (above).
LaTourette: No Fudge: Yes

Delegates’ Voting Rights: Voting 225-188, members blocked a bid to

retain limited voting rights on the House floor for the six delegates repre-
senting the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern
Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. A yes vote opposed
the bid. (H Res 5)
LaTourette: Yes Fudge: No
