EXCECUTIVE SUMMERY

2
According to the research topic “Undergraduates and Extra-curricular Activities”, this
research has analyzed the participation of extra-curricular activities of undergraduates
parallel to their academic activities as well as what they expect by doing these activities.
Analyzing data is based on the category, faculty, year and gender.

Modern education system seems to be very competitive and highly systematic. Though
undergraduates have to cover excessive work load within a semester, can be find out that
there’s a quantitative participation in extra-curricular activities among them. It proves
that the main purpose of engaging extra-curricular activities is to reduce their stress.

University of Kelaniya is providing a suitable variety of extracurricular activities to the

students, with the maximum opportunity of selecting the activities. Through a perfect
promoting strategy, the participation of undergraduates in extra-curricular activities could

1. INTRODUCTION

Today we are living in a very complex society. Most people are money minded.
According to that situation it is not enough to have only the academic knowledge but we
must know how we behave in the society also. Because we can’t isolate in this globalized
world. To spend the balanced life we should have academic as well as practical
knowledge. Extra-curricular activities help to gain us practical knowledge.

Extra-curricular activities are very useful to us to enhance our skills and talents. It gives
the guidance to develop our personality, team spirit, communication skills, creativity etc
and it helps us to reduce the stress.

undergraduates have to cover excessive work load within a semester. So that they are
lack of the knowledge of outside world. To change this prevailing situation, university
offers extra-curricular activities with a good and suitable variety. By offering these
activities, the university expects to give practical experiences. Because they know that
how important the influence of those activities in order to gain success in every field that
we hope to play a role in. That is the reason we discussed this situation through this
research.
