Introduction:
VMware ServerTM allows you to begin enjoying the benefits of server virtualization for free. VMware Server is a hosted virtualization platform that installs like an application on any existing server hardware and partitions a physical server into multiple virtual machines.

The free VMware Server is based upon VMware’s proven virtualization technology. With this robust yet easy to use software you can:
• Accelerate server provisioning by building a virtual machine once and deploying it multiple times
• Easily evaluate software in ready-to-run virtual machines without installation and configuration
• Simplify IT testing of patches, new applications and operating systems by allowing systems administrators to test in a secure virtual machine environment and be able to roll back to a clean state by using the snapshot feature
• Re-host legacy operating systems such as Windows 2000, Windows NT Server 4.0 and Windows 2003 in a virtual machine running on new hardware and operating system
• Leverage pre-built, ready-to-run virtual appliances that include virtual hardware, operating system and application environments from the Virtual Appliance Marketplace

Hands-on Labs Session
In this hands-on lab you will learn how to build and deploy VMware Server 2.0. Through hands-on, you will learn how to install and configure a virtualization server and connecting to the server with VMware Infrastructure Web Access. Once you’re done with VMware Server installation, I’ll show you how to install CentOS-5 server which you can later use to deploy other applications like Webserver, Cloud computing etc. In the follow-up hands-on-labs, you’ll learn how to install virtual machines like Linux Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and Windows XP/7/2003/2008. Also to be learned on coming training labs will include on how to use this VMs to deploy applications like DNS, Messaging solutions, Webserver etc. Finally, you’ll learn how to create Windows CIFS Share on another Windows VM to store our distribution ISOs and how to add the share to the VMware Server Web Access. Upon completion of this hands-on lab session you should have gained a competency and skills necessary to install VMware server 2.0r and VMware Infrastructure Web access with multiple guest machines to enable you build a complete network infrastructure.
