Description

Drawing on recent educational research I will outline three prototypical modes of teaching and their consequences for the design of eLearning environments. Based on
this theoretical framework I will outline the workflow structure of different kinds of
content management systems (CMS). The workflow with its specific right and role
management reveals an underlying action and communications structure, which is important for a categorization from an educational perspective. I distinguish 5 different
types of CMS for eEducation: production systems, Weblogs, Groupware, Portals and
Wikis. I will conclude with the provocative thesis that especially weblogs have a
revolutionary potential for radical changes in traditional learning organizations.
