Tucson Memorial Event

Honoring Christina-Taylor Green

Date: Thursday, January 13, 2011

Place: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 8650 N. Shannon Road, Tucson
Time: 12pm-2pm

Description: The purpose of the gathering is to provide light and love to Christina's families and
friends. This event will be peaceful and silent to demonstrate respect. There will be candles available in
several locations and we ask that you line North Shannon Road from Overton to Magee to provide
those who grieve with a path of love and community support. We are working with the family, the
church, and the police to ensure that this is a peaceful, supportive event.

Showing support in general:

Homicide Survivors, Inc., has set up a fund for survivors, victims, and their families called the
Tucson Tragedy Victims Fund. Please contact them to make monetary donations that can be used as

Showing support at the event:

1) To bring the light and support of the Tucson community, we ask that people dress in white. If
you do not wish to do so, please dress respectfully.
2) Bring candles. There will also be some available.
3) Please be willing to show silent support.
4) Please be willing to adhere to the following code of conduct:
1. I will demonstrate respect and support of the families through my actions today.
2. I will not engage protestors at all (see “Information about Westboro” below).
3. I will monitor my own mental state and remove myself or seek the services of the available
grief counselors as needed.
4. I will monitor people around me to ensure that they are receiving resources they might need.
5. I will not carry any weapons, including mace or pepper spray.
6. I will obey the directives of the police and security.

Logistics:
1) For updated information on logistics and other relevant information, please join the Google

This Group" link: http://groups.google.com/group/tucsonmemorial. Note: we are not creating
the listserv as stated this evening because there were simply too many people for a listserv.
2) Parking is an issue. Please carpool or use public transportation. Please do not park in the
church's parking lot so that friends and families may attend. We are still working on the logistics
of parking and will send out updated information as we get it.
3) There will be volunteers serving as grief counselors, medics, legal observers, and
security/assistance. If you have experience in these areas, please send an email to
Tucson.Memorial@gmail.com with your area of expertise in the subject line. We would love to
have the help!
4) The location is relatively remote. There will not be restrooms or restaurants nearby. Please plan
accordingly. We are working on this, too, but cannot make guarantees at this time.
Event don'ts:
1) Do not take pictures. The family has requested there be no media presence.
2) Do not bring signs. Your personal presence is enough.
3) This is a funeral; do not make this a political, disrespectful, or unruly event.
4) Please do not stand on the road or block traffic.
5) Do not interfere with the work of the Angels (see “Information about Westboro” below).

Information about Westboro:

1) The general feeling is that Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) will not show up to picket.
2) If they do, we can expect 5-10 picketers.
3) WBC's fundraising tactic is to goad people into attacking them, have them arrested, and then
sue them for damages. If you lose control and engage them, they really do win.
4) If WBC does picket, we have Angels who have undergone hours of training who will block
their signs with wings of love (a tradition that started when WBC picketed Matthew Shepard's
funeral 12 years ago). There will likely be police officers between the WBC and the Angels.
The Angels are there to protect Christina's young friends from viewing WBC's hatred. Please do
not interfere with the work of the Angels! If you find the words that the WBC is using interfere
with your ability to show support and love, please either leave or remove yourself to another
part of the road. We would like to have North Shannon from Overton to Cortaro Farms/Magee
lined with love and support, so there are plenty of places for all.
