MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE                        REGULAR SESSION 2008 By:  Senator(s) Kirby, Frazier, Lee (35th),Yancey              SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.  611   A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE1PEARL HIGH SCHOOL "PIRATE" MARCHING BAND AND BAND DIRECTOR JEFF2CANNON FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES3ASSOCIATION/MISSISSIPPI BAND ASSOCIATION 2007 CLASS 4A STATE4CHAMPIONSHIP.5WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 27, 2007, the Pearl High School6"Pirate" Marching Band received First Place in the Mississippi7High School Activities Association/Mississippi Band Association82007 Class 4A State Marching Band Championship in Pearl,9Mississippi; and10WHEREAS, the Pirate Band achieved this honor after a11show-stopping performance, earning the band a whopping 94.1012points.  The Pearl High School Band not only won the overall13title, it received special caption awards for Best Overall Music,14Best Overall Visual and Marching, Best Overall General Effect, and15Best Overall Percussion.  Pearl, performing on its home field,16defeated second place Ridgeland High School for the crown; and17WHEREAS, first-year Director Jeff Cannon said the win was the18result of a lot of hard work and tons of support from the19community, not just band members, but parents and school and20district administrators.  The 166-member Pearl Pirate Band, led by21Drum Majors Blake Case, Erick Weeks and Jennifer Harvey, led the22band through a medley of songs by Trumpet player Bill Chase; and23WHEREAS, the Mississippi High School Activities Association24and the Mississippi Band Association began having this series of25competitions four years ago.  This state title honors the Pearl26Band program's long, rich history in musical excellence; and27
