The Liberty buildings and site met all of the key criteria listedabove and offered expansion capabilities for fu-ture growth.

Access to a skilled manufacturingworkforce, customized training support fromRandolph Community College, and the businessfriendly attitude of state and local governmentofficials were all important factors in Liberty’sfavor as the company narrowed their options.

Incentivegrants will be paid over eight years as the com-pany creates and retains jobs and meets invest-ment targets.

In 1998, the Town of Liberty andRandolph County partnered with the RandolphCounty Economic Development Corporation toextend infrastructure and create a new railserved industrial park.

Randolph County Com-mission Chairman Harold Holmes welcomed thegood news.

“This is great news for our county.

We are so pleased to see quality job growth inrural Eastern Randolph County.

That area has been hard hit by job loss over the last fiveyears.”

Randolph County Economic Develop-ment President Bonnie Renfro thanked all of partners that worked hard to make the project areality.

Santa Hits Hurricane

 Jane’s
Well, the holiday feel was in the air at Hurricane Jane’son Thursday Dec 23. Jan and Ron wanted to give back to the community that has given them so much thispast year. The held a special night for all. From the din-ing area, you could kick back with friends and familyand enjoy a great meal while listening to the talentedlocal, Keith Bartell, as he filled the air with wonderfulChristmas favorites.

The staff was all decked out intheir matching Tie Dyed outfits and full of smiles andcheer. In the other half of the establishment, that is al-lowed to be used by the community from dance classes,to painting classes and home for Sunday Night TeenGathering by Freedom Family Church for the entirecommunity was the place do be if you where a kid. Asyou walked in the room, the wall was lined with 150treat back, that would go home to all the children. Filledwith fruits and candies, these bags hit a home run. The big screen was up and I (Liberty Leader) was luckyenough to be allowed to sponsor the movies for all thechildren to enjoy. From Charlie Brown to Frosty theSnowman was the features of the night. Prior to themovie it was overwhelming to hear all the commotionsas these kids funneled in the room. But just like magic, when the movie started, the kids all fell into place onthe floor and you could have heard a pin drop, as theyeagerly looked at the shows. Hurricane Jane’s providedfree hotdogs and drinks to all the children. They had aspecial guest that brought in a real manager with hay. Iwas amazed at how the kids could not stop touchingthe hay, it was like a new found item. The speaker wenton

to give the true meaning of CHRISTmas. Wait, whatis that I see.... in walked Santa...so much for the peaceand order. The kids jumped to attention and fell in line. Each child got an opportunity to set with Santa andgive him his wishes. Each child got to pick a free boy orgirl toy to take with them. I love seeing how a commu-nity pulls together and shows their love for each other.Well with most hurricanes there is mass destruction, but with Liberty's very own Hurricane, nothing butgoodness and smiles was left by this Hurricanes effect.Pictures on page 2

Flu? Or Cold?
Your child is sent home from school with a sore throat, cough, and high fever — could it be the flu that's been going around?Or just a

common cold?Although the flu (or

influenza) usually causes symptoms thatmake someone feel worse than symptoms associated with acommon cold, it's not always easy to tell the difference betweenthe two.
SymptomsGuide
The answers to these questions can help determine whether achild is fighting the flu or combating a cold:Flu vs. Colds: A Guide to SymptomsIf most of your answers fell into the first category, chances arethat your child has the flu. If your answers were usually in thesecond category, it's most likely a cold. But don't be too quick to brush off your child's illness as justanother cold. The important thing to remember is that flu symp-toms can vary from child to child (and they can change as theillness progresses), so if you suspect the flu, call the doctor. Evendoctors often need a test to tell them for sure if a person has theflu or not since the symptoms can be so similar! Some bacterial diseases, like strep throat or pneumonia, also canlook like theflu or a cold. It's important to get medical attentionimmediately if your child seems to be getting worse, is havingany trouble breathing, has a high fever, has a bad headache, hasa sore throat, or seems confused. While even healthy kids can have complications of the flu, kidswith certain medical conditions are at more of a risk. If youthink your child might have the flu, contact your doctor.

TreatmentSome kids with chronic medical conditions may become sickerwith the flu and need to be hospitalized, and flu in an infantalso can be dangerous. For severely ill kids or those with otherspecial circumstances, doctors may prescribe an antiviral medi-cine that can ease flu symptoms, but only if it's given within 48hours of the onset of the flu. Most of the time, you can care for your child by offering plentyof fluids, rest, and extra comfort. And if the doctor says it's not the flu? Ask whether your childshould get a

flu shot.
