Chapter – 1

Once a young man was reciting Durood-o-Salam during the tawaf

of Holy Ka’aba. A man asked him why he was reciting just Durood-
o-Salam when there were other prayers too. The young man told
him that he knew the other prayers too but he was reciting Durood-
o-Salam due to a very special reason. He said: “My father left home
for pilgrimage. During the journey my father died. His face became
very dark, his eyes bulged out and his belly was swollen. I was very
worried and started weeping. During the night, when I fell asleep, I
saw a very good-looking man in my dream. He touched his saintly

1
hand to the face, eyes and belly of my father. At once, my father’s
face became whiter and brighter than milk. His belly and eyes also
regained their shape. I was extremely happy. When that great man
was going to leave, I asked him who he was. He told me that he was
my beloved Prophet .”

He further told me that my father used to recite Durood-o-Salam

profusely though he was a sinner. Then he said that he
who recited Durood-o-Salam on him abundantly was favoured by
him in times of trouble.

Dear students! We receive many Madani pearls from this lesson. First,
our beloved Prophet is very kind and affectionate to his
Ummah. Secondly, those who recite Durood-o-Salam are showered
upon with the benevolence of his Lord. Thirdly, Durood-o-Salam
earns for us the pleasure of Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet
.

1. Why was the youngman reciting Durood-o-

Salam during the tawaf?

2. What happened during their journey?

3. Why was the shape of the dead deformed?

4. How did he regain his extremely shape?

The Wall of Orphan Children

Dear students, Once Hazrat Musa and Hazrat Khizar
went to a city. The inhabitants of that city neither treated
them well nor served them any meals. When they were going to leave
that city, Hazrat Khizar started mending a wall which was
about to fall. For Hazrat Musa , it was quite strange as the
inhabitants of that city had not offered them any favour but Hazrat
Khizar was doing them a favour. Hazrat Musa
said: “It would have been better, if you had asked for wages.” Hazrat
Khizar told him that the wall belonged to two orphan
children. Their deceased father, who was a pious man, had hidden
some treasure under that wall so that they might get it when they come
of age. Therefore it was the will of Allah that these children should

4
get that treasure. Allah Almighty favoured these children due to the
piety of their father. Muslim interpreters say that that pious man was
their predecessor (who became their father in the seventh or tenth
generation).
Dear students, This tale shows that kindness and piety never go unrewarded
and they benefit their doer and all those who are attached to him.

Answer the following questions in few words:

1. Who was Hazrat Khizar ?

2. How did the villagers treat them?

3. Why did Hazrat Khizar mend the

wall?

4. What was hidden under the wall?

5. Why should we be pious?

Heavenly Meal

The apostles asked Hazrat Isa “Can your Lord provide a

meal to us from Heaven?” Hazrat Isa told them to fear
Allah Almighty and not to demand any proof of His existence from
Him. But they said that they were not demanding proof, rather they
wished to satiate their hunger as well as satisfy their minds so that
they may serve as witness for the people of Bani Israel. They were
of the opinion that in this way the faith of the believers would be
strengthened and the non-believers would embrace Islam.

Upon this, Hazrat Isa prayed to Allah Almighty for providing

the meal. Allah Almighty told Hazrat Isa that the meal
would descend but if after that, even one of the Bani Israel would
not embrace Islam, they would be given exemplary punishment. So
Allah Almighty descended a few angels with heavenly meal. According
to tradition, the meal contained fish, different types of vegetables,
bread loaves, olive oil, honey, ghee, and meat. Seeing this heavenly meal,
one of Hazrat Isa’s apostle Hazrat Shamaen asked,
“O Prophet of Allah Almighty! “Is this a worldly meal or a heavenly
meal?” Hazrat Isa replied: “This is neither a worldly meal
nor a heavenly meal; rather Allah Almighty has created it for you at
this time.”

6
Then Hazrat Isa ordered the people to eat this meal to
satiate their hunger but at the same time he forbade them to store
it for the next day. But Bani Israelies disobeyed him and stored the
meal for the next day. Due to this disobedience, Allah Almighty
deformed them and changed them into monkeys and pigs. Then
Hazrat Isa prayed for their death. On the third day, all of
them died and no one knew, what had happened to their dead-
bodies.

Dear students, there are many moral lessons in this unit. First, we
must realize the significance of gratefulness and the torment unleashed
upon the ungrateful. Secondly, disobedience to prophets causes and
invites the wrath of Allah Almighty. Thirdly, greed is always a curse
which deprives a man of Allah’s favours and His immense bounty.

7
Q.1 Answer the following questions in few words.

1. Who were Apostles?

2. What did they say to Hazrat Isa ?

3. What was Hazrat Isa’s reply?

Once Hazrat Ali was passing through a barren plain. All his
companions were very thirsty. They wandered here and there in
search of water. A monk who lived in a church told them that there
was a well at a distance of two miles. Some people asked Hazrat Ali’s
permission to go there. Hazrat Ali pointed his auspicious
finger towards a place and ordered them to dig that place. They
started digging the place. After a while, a rock appeared there. They
tried their level best to dig out that rock but they could not succeed.
Seeing this, Hazrat Ali dug it out with his fingers. There was

9
a spring of sweet and clear water over there.

All of Hazrat Ali’s companions and their animals drank the

water. When the monk saw this, he inquired: “Are you an angel?”
Hazrat Ali said: “No.” He asked again: “Are you Prophet,
then?” Hazrat Ali said: “I am a companion of the Holy
Prophet and he has taught me a few things”. Upon this
the monk embraced Islam. Hazrat Ali asked him why he had
not embraced Islam before. He said: “I had read from our divine
books that a man would reveal a hidden spring near this church and
he would be either Prophet or a companion of the Prophet. I had

Wudu and Science

Dear students! Islam is a perfect religion. Our every ritual is very

beneficial for mankind. In this unit, we will discuss about the benefits
of wudu.

According to medical experts, a man who performs wudu regularly,

never suffers from any psychological diseases. His mind remains fresh
and active all the time. He never suffers from depression or frustration.
He faces the hardships of life bravely. A Muslim psychologist says:
“The best treatment of psychological diseases is wudu.”

12
Dear students! We start wudu with ‘Miswak’ (a piece of twig used to
brush teeth). Now Miswak is very useful for human beings. It saves
teeth from all types of diseases. It sharpens memory and intellect.
Whenever the Holy Prophet entered his house, he would
brush his teeth with Miswak.

During wudu, we wash our face, hands, arms and feet. Nowadays,
there is pollution, dirt and smoke every where. By performing wudu,
we save the sensitive parts of our body from harm. An environment
expert says: “One should wash his face time to time in order to save
it from allergy.” A renowned member of ‘American Council for Beauty’
once said,“The Muslims don’t require any lotion, as wudu saves their
faces from various diseases.” Wudu also saves us from blindness.

Dear students! Remember that our beloved Prophet’s

Sunnah is not indebted to science, rather it is science which is
indebted to the teachings of the Holy Prophet . If you
want to get the blessings of Allah Almighty in both worlds (mortal

Prophet .

days, Hazrat Sayyiduna Ali Ibn-e-Abi-Talib came at the Holy
Prophet’s house. At that time, he was about ten years old.
When he saw the Holy Prophet and Hazrat Khadija
offering their prayers, he asked: “What are you doing?” The beloved
Prophet said: “It is a ritual of Allah Almighty’s favourite
religion for which He has sent his Prophet. I invite you to worship
Allah Almighty instead of ‘Laat and Uza’ (the names of two idols).”
Hazrat Ali replied; “I have never heard about this before. I
can’t decide anything without consulting my father.” The Holy Prophet
said; “If you are not going to embrace Islam, then keep

15
it a secret.” But the same night, Allah Almighty kindled the love of Islam

Hazrat Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz was a great saint. His name

was Hasan Sanjri, while ‘Ghareeb Nawaz’ was his title. The Holy
Prophet granted him the sainthood of India. When he
came to India, people started embracing Islam in great number due
to his preaching.

The ruler of India, Prithvi Raj was very worried about this. Hence he
asked the most dangerous magician of the country, Ajay Paal to fight
a duel with Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz . Ajay Paal reached the
dwelling place of Hazrat Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz along with
his companions. Seeing the anxiety of his companions, Khawaja
Ghareeb Nawaz encircled them and ordered them to remain
in the circle. In the meantime, Ajay Paal’s disciples started throwing
flames and stones at the Muslims but all their tricks proved to be in
vain. Then they conjured thousands of snakes which started
approaching the Muslims but as soon as they reached the circle, they
died. When all the tactics of his disciples failed, their leader started
showing different magic tricks but everything vanished before entering
into the circle.

Upon this, he became furious. He tossed the skin of deer in the air
and sat upon it. When he rose very high, the Muslims became nervous.
17
They thought he would now create mischief but Hazrat Khawaja
Ghareeb Nawaz was smiling. He ordered his shoes to fly. His
shoes reached over the head of Ajay within no time and started
striking at his head. At every strike, he came rapidly down and finally
fell at the feet of Hazrat Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz . He repented
over his sins and embraced Islam. Hazrat Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz

Ameer-e-Ahlesunnat states an incident of his childhood: “I

was a small boy in those days. We lived in the old town area of ‘Babul
Madina’ (Karachi). There was a masjid in our mohalla whose Imam
was very noble. He would teach one or two tenets about prayers daily.
Those tenets helped me a lot to understand the basics of religion.
One day, I offered my Zuhar prayer along with my brother and came
out of the masjid when a man put a question to the respected Imam.
The Imam asked someone to bring Bahar-e-Shariat. When the book
was brought, I saw for the first time its beautiful title page and wished
in my heart to have that book. In those days, I had neither seen a

Hazrat Syyiduna Abou Nasar Sayed says: “Once Hazrat Syyiduna

Bishar Hafi passed near me while I was standing at the gate
of a masjid and people were coming out of the masjid after offering
their Friday prayers. He asked me, “Why are you standing here at
this time?” I said, “Sir, there is neither flour nor bread nor anything
else at home to buy these things.” He said: “Allah Almighty is benevolent.
Get your net along with you and let’s go to the valley.” Hazrat Syyiduna
Abou Nasar says: “I picked up the net and went along with
him. When we reached the valley, he said: “Perform Wudu and then
offer a prayer.” I did so and then he said: “Throw your net in the

After the Holy month of Ramadan, the Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitar

on the 1st of Shawal. Eid is the name of felicity, joy and happiness.
It is actually a reward for fasting in the month for the Muslims, by
Allah Almighty. The Holy Prophet said: “When the Muslims
enter the ‘Eidgah (place where Eid prayer is offered), Allah Almighty
asks his angels, “What should be the wages of that labourer who has
finished his work?” The angels reply that he must be given full wages.
Upon this, Allah Almighty says, “Be witness, I’ve forgiven all those
Muslims who observed fasts and offered prayers in the Holy month
of Ramdan.”
28
On Eid-day, every man and woman, young and old and even children
should have a bath, wear new clothes, and use Eter. As Eid is the day
of celebration and enjoyment’ we should share our joys and happiness
with those who do not have enough means and resources to rejoice
themselves. We must not forget the poor and needy people because
it is obligatory on us to help them.

On Eid-day, we should go to the Eid gah by one way and return by

another way. Before offering the Eid-prayer, one should eat something
sweet because it is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet . Hazrat
Ans Bin Malik reports that our Holy Prophet would
eat a few dates before going to the Eidgah.

Eid-Ul Fitar has immense importance in Muslim society. It is the day

A Fox’s dilemma

Once a plague broke out in the capital of the Ummayad Dynasty. The
Caliph Walid bin Abdul Malik was so frightened that he left his capital
and set out on a long journey in order to avoid the deadly plague.
He was extremely terrified. Therefore he would drink, eat and even
sleep on his horse. He thought that the moment he dismounted from
his horse, the dangerous epidemic would attack him and as a result
of the attack, he would die.

One day, he called for his wisest counsellor and asked him to narrate
tale. The wise counsellor thus spoke: “One day, a fox was wandering
here and there in the forest. Suddenly an eagle pounced upon it.
The fox was very worried so it went to the lion and asked him for
help. The kind hearted lion agreed to help the fox. He asked it to sit
on his back so that no animal might dare to attack the fox. The

31
fox did so but one day a giant eagle came, picked up the fox and
started flying towards an unknown place. While the fox was being
pounced upon, it asked the lion to help it. The lion told the fox that
he had promised to guard it against the attack of earthly beasts but
he could not help it against attacks by heavenly monsters.”
When the counsellor finished the story the king’s mind realized its
significance. He had understood the moral of this story. He realized

A sacred Journey

About four thousand years ago, a child was born in the land of Iraq.
His name was Ibrahim . He was one of the greatest
Prophets of Allah Almighty. He is also known as ‘Khalilullah’
(Friend of Allah Almighty).

Hazrat Ibrahim was very hospitable, generous, kind-hearafter

and chaste in faith. When a beautiful child was born to Hazrat Bibi
Hajra , Allah Almighty ordered Hazrat Ibrahim to
34
travel toward the place which is now known as Makkat-ul-Mukarrama.
with his wife and small child, Hazrat Ibrahim left for
Makkah. After a long and tiresome journey, they reached barren valley
where there were two small hills called Safa and Marwah.

The Prophet of Allah Almighty asked his wife to stay near one of the
hills. Saying this, he started going away. Upon this Hazrat Bibi Hajra
asked him the reason for his departure. Hazrat Ibrahim
told her that Allah Almighty had commanded him to do so. Hazrat
Hajra breathed a sigh of relief and then uttered these historic
words: “If Allah Almighty wished so, he would not let us die”

After Hazrat Ibrahim’s departure, the small child began

to cry because of thirst. It was a barren and deserted place. There
was not a single drop of water. Hazrat Bibi Hajra ran from
one hill to another, but could not find any water. She did so seven
times but each time she was disappointed. Meanwhile, the baby
continued crying and rubbing his sacred heels that rough and barren
soil. Soon a miracle took place. A spring gushed forth beneath the
heels of the child. When Hazrat Bibi Hajra saw the powerful
bursts of that spring, she uttered these historic words “Zamzam”
which means to stop.

Dear students, do you know what is the name of that child and that
spring? The name of that child is Hazrat Ismail . And the

John: Hi, how are you?

Salman: All praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
John: That’s a strange reply. I’ve never heard that. Are you a
Muslim?
Salman: Yes, by the grace of Allah Almighty, I am a Muslim.
John: But I don’t believe in any religion of the world as no one
has guided me properly.
Salman: You are mistaken. I think you have never studied Islam.
John: Of course, I’ve never tried to study Islam but I’ve studied

37
all the other religions and I think, Islam will also be like all
the other religions of the world.
Salman: Dear, first, you can’t compare Islam to any other religion of the
world. Secondly, Islam is the only religion in the world which
is perfect and which guides its followers in all spheres of life.
John: How can you prove this?
Salman: It is as easy as ABC but you will have to go with me to
Faizan-e-Madina. There we can discuss this thoroughly.
John: O.K. let’s go.

(While entering Faizan-e-Madina, John looks at every thing

with great curiosity. Salman takes him to the library).

Salman: Be seated, please. Now, we can easily discuss. You can ask
anything about Islam.
John: (He is much obliged to Salman because of this hospitality)
I don’t know a lot about Islam but very often a question
comes to my mind that why we worship only One God when
all the other religions ask their followers to worship more
than one God. How can a single God run this entire universe
alone? Isn’t it ridiculous?
Salman: As far as your first question is concerned, you are absolutely
correct that we believe in One Allah Almighty ( ). The
reason is that Allah Almighty has created each and everything.
Secondly, if there had been more than one God, there would
have been destruction in the whole universe. Thirdly, even
if a small state is run by two rulers, what will be the result?
38
John: (Thinking for a while) They would distribute their duties.
And it would be very easy for them.
Salman: (Smiling) Can you give a single example?
John: (Wonderstruck and perplexed) I can’t think of any example.
Salman: Why?
John: I don’t know but all the religions say that the creator is one,
however he has assigned many duties to his partners.
Salman: Dear! If a small state can’t be run by two rulers, how is it
possible that this vast and limitless universe would be
governed by two or three or as many gods as other religions
claims there to be think? Don’t you think there would be
chaos and destruction?
John: (He seems somewhat convinced) But what about God’s
family members?
Salman: Dear, if we suppose for a while that Allah Almighty has a
family then the question will arise who are the parents of
Allah Almighty and then who are their parents and so on.
Isn’t it illogical as well as irrational opinion? Don’t you think
it is sheer absurdity to even think about it?
John: Your arguments seem logical. Brother, I am convinced. I
want to embrace Islam.
Salman: (Almost in a trance) All praise be to Allah, the Lord of all
the worlds!

(John recites ‘Kalima-e-Shahaadat’ and they both embrace

each other).

Chapter – 15

A man relates that once he saw a strange man at the shrine of Hazrat
Baha-ud-din Multani . He was looking very sad and weak.
He had dipped his fingers in a bucket. The man asked the stranger
“What is the reason behind dipping your fingers in the bucket?” That
stranger said “I was a shopkeeper. A beggar would come to my shop
daily and I would give him one or two coins. He used to tell me very
sad stories about his poverty. It so happened that he did not come
for many days. I decided to inquire about him. So I went to his cottage.
There he was lying on a broken bed. When he saw me, he started

41
weeping and told me that whatever he had told me was wrong. He
was not poor. In fact, he was very wealthy. His family-members hated
this profession, so they had left him. But he could not quit this
profession. Then he pointed his finger towards a corner and said that
there were four sacks of money under the worn-out clothes. When
I removed the worn-out clothes, I found four sacks full of money.
The mysterious beggar requested me to bury all that wealth along
with him after his death. Saying this, he died. I buried him with the
help of some people and also buried his money but remembered
the place. After some time, I suffered a huge loss in business so I
decided to take out the money which I had buried in the grave. One
night, I reached the graveyard and started digging his grave. After
a few moments, I saw a sack of money. I was very frightened but
then due to greed, I approached the sack. As soon as I touched the
sack, a cinder burned my fingers. I screamed loudly and ran away
from the graveyard. I repented and expressed remorse but I couldn’t
get rid of that pain. Since then I have been dipping my fingers into
the water”.

Dear students! We come to learn from this lesson that greed is a

curse. First the beggar was left alone by his family due to his lust for
wealth and then the businessman burnt his hand. So we should thank
Allah at whatever He has granted us; and live in contentment. A man
who lives a contented life is the happiest man on the earth.

Chapter – 16

Dear students! This lesson has been taken from the book-let of
Ameer-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat “The Devastations of Music”. In this unit, you
will be told about the first singer of the world and mentor of those
who sing songs.

It is said that when Hazrat Adam ate the fruit of the forbidden
tree, it was Satan who sang a song in delight on that occasion.
Moreover, when Hazrat Adam passed away, at that time
Hazrat Adam’s unfortunate son ‘Qabeel’ (who killed his

44
brother ‘Habeel’ due to jealousy) sang a song along with Satan. Both
of them were very happy at the death of Hazrat Adam .
So in order to celebrate this occasion, they got together, beat drums
and sang songs of delight.

It shows that it is Satan who invented singing and drum-beating and

those who sing songs or beat drums are actually following the foot-
steps of Satan. In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “O people who
believe! Enter Islam in full – and do not follow the footsteps of the
devil, indeed he is your real enemy”. (Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 208)

Dear students! No doubt that listening to music and singing songs

is a sin, Haraam and will lead to Hell. Our Holy Prophet
said: “If anyone sits near a singer and listens to him, Allah will pour
molten lead in his ears on the day of judgment”. If others are also
listening to music then one who is playing the music or singing songs
will not only be responsible for his own sin, but will also be responsible
for the sins of all those who are listening.

Let us resolve that we will neither sing songs nor will we listen to
them.
