What is Distance Learning?
Just like it sounds, distance learning is a way for you to earn a degree –everything from a certificate program or associate’s degree, all the way up topost-graduate degrees – without having to trudge to classes in person. Sobasically, even though you’re not required to be physically on site at a school or college, you can still get a great education and put yourself in line to advance inyour career.Rather than attending classes in person, you and your teachers can insteadcommunicate at times of your own choosing by exchanging emails and electronicdocuments, or via technology that allows you to communicate in real time. If you’re familiar with things like instant messaging, Internet chatrooms, desktopsharing, or even something as simple as sending email, you probably have allthe “technical” skills you need to get a degree through a distance learningprogram. It’s no secret that this style of education is becoming more and more popular asour lives get busier and more involved. When time is at a premium, we need anoption to allow us to develop ourselves at our own pace, according to our ownschedules. And that’s exactly why distance learning has seen such an explosionin popularity.Distance learning is perfect for anyone who wants to continue their education, but doesn’t have time to attend classes in person or who can’t be tied tosomeone else’s schedule – think moms (or dads), busy professionals, or justplain old “working stiffs.” Here’s what I love about distance learning in particular -- you have the flexibilityto learn anywhere and anytime, as long as you have access to the Internet - so if you've ever wanted to expand your education, but can't seem to find the time totake a night class, or have to stay at home to look after your children, or can'tafford to take time out from working to study for a degree - distance learning isprobably going to be the best way for you to achieve your goals. (I know it helpedme achieve mine!!)
What do you need to get started?
First, you need to decide on the subject you want to study, and then find alearning institution that offers online education or distance learning courses inthat area. Pretty simple, right? Well, yes and no…There are plenty of online colleges out there, but to be honest there’s a pretty biggap between the good ones and the not so good ones. There’s no reason towaste your time and money getting a degree from a college that’s not respected.I mean, we’re all in this
for
something, right?

Now, here’s exactly how to go about finding the good distance learning programsfrom the bad ones.First,
click on one (or both) of the links below
to go right to two of the mosthighly respected distance learning search programs you’ll find anywhere. These are the only two sites I’d ever recommend you use for a couple reasons.Number one is that they’re incredibly simple to use, and number two is that theywork – they can find distance learning programs in literally any field you canimagine. All you have to do is choose the program and school you’re interestedin, and they take care of the rest. In a matter of a few days, all the informationyou need will be in your hands. Try it and see for yourself.I’d recommend you
(go ahead, click on the link – it’lleven open up in a new window so you won’t lose your place here). I can almostguarantee you’ll find what you’re looking for. When you’re finished with that site, you’ll probably also want to
to seethe second resource I recommend. They may have some additional programsand schools that are perfect for you.Spend some time on both of those sites and request as much information as youlike from as many schools as you like. It doesn’t cost you a dime, so there’s noreason not to get information from as many schools as you like, even if you’reonly mildly interested. You never know what you might find when the informationstarts coming in.Once you’ve chosen a few schools at the sites above, here’s how you cannarrow down your choices to pick the school that’s right for you.
The important questions to ask a college (prior to registration)
 Accreditation
Accreditation is one of the most important topics to address before you commityourself to an online course.Accreditation is when a college adapts and fine tunes its programs, policies andprocesses to meet or exceed the criteria of an external agency or organization. When a school is found to meet this standard, they are granted accreditation inrecognition of this achievement. This protects you, the school and employers, because it ensures that collegesare providing a high quality of education, and meeting standards, rather thanhurrying you through a bogus system just to get your money (known as a
