Officer of the Month Nomination Senior Corporal Sara Vergara
Senior Corporal Sara Vergara, #8651, was hired on May 20, 2005. Upon graduating from the
Police Academy she was assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division.
Senior Corporal Vergara is assigned to the 420°s sector in West Dallas. This sector historically has
been one of the highest crime areas in the city of Dallas and was just recently changed from
Northwest Division to Southwest Division on October 24, 2007. Senior Corporal Vergara, in order
to continue to serve the people in West Dallas, volunteered to change from the Northwest Division
to the Southwest Division in order to stay close to the community in which she enjoyed working
Senior Corporal Vergara has been working for me in the West Dallas area for 13 years. was
promoted to the rank of Senior Corporal on January 20, 2010. Her skills and knowledge can now
be used to help the incoming recruits to better understand what it takes to make a well rounded
police officer. Senior Corporal Vergara was given an opportunity to take another assignment, but
she volunteered to stay in the West Dallas area. She wanted to work specifically for this
community. Because of her dedication to the area and the people that live in west Dallas, 1
‘commend her for her fortitude and dedication to the individuals in this fine community.
Beginning October 1, 2007, to present, Senior Corporal Vergara has responded to 2,616 calls for
service, made 615 city arrests and 103 investigative arrests including 47 felonies in the act. Senior
Corporal Vergara deservedly received an EXCEEDS OBJECTIVES rating on her Performance
Management Evaluation.
Since her assignment to the 420°s, Senior Corporal Vergara has received no sustained complaints,
and has had no preventable accidents. Senior Corporal Vergara maintained the highest activity
rating among her peers since she has been assigned to West Dallas. During the course of her tenure
being assigned to West Dallas, Senior Corporal Vergara has aspired to be the top cop of the year.
Corporal Vergara attends the Fellowship Church and her Pastor's name is Eddie Young. Corporal
Vergara volunteers her time with the Hope Farm, which is located in the Ft. Worth area. This
facility provides for single mothers to send their kids to an after school program because they
cannot afford to pay for outside facilities to take care of them. Corporal Vergara has volunteered
her time to take care of the children until the parents are able to leave their jobs and pick them up.
This is a volunteer program and no compensation is given to Corporal Vergara.Thave been working in West Dallas as a Supervisor for the past 15 years, and I have seen Officers
come and go throughout my tenure in West Dallas. I have seen a sincere concern for the
betterment of the community by Senior Corporal Vergara who is very conscientious about her
work. Senior Corporal Vergara has no problem following directions and wants to make West
Dallas a safer environment for the community. Corporal Vergara leads by example. She believes
it is her obligation as a Dallas Police Officer to set a higher standard of commitment in the
community she serves. Senior Corporal Vergara’s outstanding contributions to the city of Dallas
and the Dallas Police Department are obvious from her efforts, her results and her concer for the
community. 1 believe that Officer Vergara’s efforts are highly commendable and deserving of
recognition. It is for these reasons that I take great pride in nominating Senior Corporal Sara
Vergara for the Officer of the Month Award.
