Leading environmental advocate and director of the Carbon Tax Center, Charles Komanoff will be visiting
University City to give a talk about the "fee-and-dividend" model carbon tax that many climatologists
agree is needed to ween our society off of carbon-based fuel that causes climate change.  The talk,
entitled "Taxing Carbon: A Simple Solution to the Climate Crisis," will be at the Tabernacle Church at 3700
Chestnut Street on Friday, January 21st at 7 PM.  The event is sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of
the Progressive Democrats of America and the Philadelphia Regional Anti-War Network.  It is free and
open to the public.

Komanoff is a long time activist on the issue of traffic pollution in New York City.  He helped to organize
the Pricing Carbon Conference at Wesleyan University in November where he spoke alongside experts
such as Bill McKibben and NASA scientist James Hansen.  In the taxing model which Komanoff will
address, all carbon-based fuels are taxed at the source with the entire revenue going back to consumers
to help pay for increased energy costs.  The goal is to make clean energy sources more affordable
compared to carbon-based fuel such as oil, natural gas, and coal.
