We Gather In God’s Name

Prelude Andante Wilhelm Volckmar

Words of Welcome and Signing of Friendship Pads

Please add your name to the pad you will find at the end of each pew and pass it along your
row so that we can know each other by name.

*Call to Worship Lector – Martha Jeunger

(from Psalm 40)
When I waited patiently for you, O God, you bent down to me and heard my cry.
You put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; I have not
restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord.
Do not, O Lord, withhold your mercy from me; let your steadfast love and
faithfulness keep me safe forever.
Let us worship God!

Call to Confession
The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were sinners Christ died for us.
Because we have faith in him, we dare not approach God with Confidence. In faith
and penitence, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Prayer of Confession

Our desire is to do your will, O God; your law is in our hearts. But when
misfortunes beyond counting press from all sides, and iniquities overtake us,
our sight fails. When we are tempted by the vain promises of a life full of ease,
our courage forsakes us and we submit to their charm. When enemies
overpower us and mock our faith, we shrink back in disgrace and abandon
what Christ taught. O God, we are poor and in need. You are our help and
salvation. Come to our aid, and make no delay. Amen.

~ Silent prayers ~

The Gift of Forgiveness

Thanks be to God! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

Offering Our Gifts and Ourselves

Offertory Lamb of God Twila Paris

Soloist – Karen Harpe

Your only Son, no sin to hide; Oh Lamb of God, Sweet lamb of God
But You have sent Him, from Your side I love the Holy Lamb of God
To walk upon this guilty sod Oh wash me in His precious Blood
And to become the Lamb of God My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

Your gift of Love, they crucified; I was so lost I should have died
They laughed and scorned him as he But You have brought me to Your side
died To be led by Your staff and rod
The humble King they named a fraud And to be call a lamb of God
And sacrificed the Lamb of God

*Response Doxology LASST UNS ERFREUEN

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Christ, all people here below;
O, praise God, Alleluia!
Praise Holy Spirit evermore;
Praise Triune God, whom we adore.
O, praise God, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
*Prayer of Dedication

As the Lamb of God takes away the sins of the world, we remember that we
are baptized as a sign of new life. Accept these gifts, O God, which we
offer as we recommit ourselves to ministry in Christ’s name. May your
Spirit empower us for the tasks that await, and the waters refresh us as we
go forth to serve. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
January 16, 2011
Welcome To First United! It is a joy that you have chosen to enrich this worshipping
community with your presence this morning. We hope you find a spiritual home here, a
place of love, support and service. Following worship, you are cordially invited to gather
with the community for a time of refreshment and conversation in Fellowship Hall.
Prayers of the People There is a prayer journal at the back of the sanctuary where
you may record prayer requests to be included during the prayers of the people.
Wear A Name Tag as a sign of warm welcome for newcomers. If you do not have one,
or need a replacement, please make a note on one of the bright orange flyers at the
rear of the sanctuary.
The Deacons thank those who are contributing $1 each week to the work of the
Deacons. It is greatly appreciated as we work to help others. You can either use the
gold & white envelope in the pew rack or make a special designation in your pledge
envelope for this important Deacons fund.
Deacons remind you of the Care Notes in the rack at the back of the Sanctuary.
Care Notes are pamphlets dealing with topics including grief, illness, anger
management and concerns with teens and children. We encourage you to use them for
yourself, your family, friends, or other individuals who might derive some benefit from
them.
Parking for Worship is available in the large lot behind the Gurley Building at the
corner of Sixth Avenue and Fulton Street or in the small lot on the corner of Fifth
Avenue and Fulton Street and also along Fifth Avenue. Please note: The parking
spaces in the alley on the Grand Street side of the sanctuary are private parking spaces
that belong to Franklin Plaza. Please do not park there.
For families with children: Childcare during worship for children through age 4 is
available in the nursery located between the sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall. The
Respite Room, at the rear of the sanctuary on the south side, is available for parents or
caregivers of infants and toddlers who may need a brief time away of worship.
A reminder that there is always a basket for food donations for the Troy Larger Parish
Food Pantry on your way into church. And if you would rather, cash buys more food
from the Regional Food bank. Empty your change into the jars at either sanctuary door.
Joseph’s House, a homeless shelter, has some guests stay overnight at local
churches, etc, in the colder months – called “Inn From the Cold”. There is a need for
volunteers to assist the staff for these overnights. If you want to hear more about
