WORLDWIDE M&A UP 21%, STRONGEST QUARTER SINCE Q308 - The value of worldwide M&A totaled
US$1.75 trillion during the first nine months of 2010, a 21% increase from comparable 2009 levels and the
Americas
strongest nine month period for M&A since 2008. By number of deals, M&A activity is up 3.8% compared to last $7
year with over 29,000 announced deals. Third quarter M&A activity increased 21% over the second quarter of
Emea
2010, to US$676.9 billion, the largest quarter for worldwide M&A since the third quarter of 2008.

EMERGING MARKETS ACCOUNT FOR 32% OF M&A - Mergers and acquisitions involving companies located in
the emerging markets totaled US$551.6 billion during the first nine months of 2010, a 72.6% increase over the first Japan

nine months of 2009. For the three quarters of 2010, emerging markets M&A accounted for 32.2% of worldwide
M&A volume compared to 22% during the comparable period in 2009. Cross Border M&A activity totaled $5
US$723.0 billion during the first nine months of 2010, accounting for 41.2% of overall M&A volume, compared to
26.1% last year at this time.

COMPLETED ADVISORY FEES UP 38% - According to estimates from Thomson Reuters/Freeman Consulting,
M&A advisory fees from completed transactions totaled US$19.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, a 38%
increase from the comparable period in 2009. Deal activity in the Americas accounted for 49% of the worldwide fee
pool, while Europe, Middle East and Africa accounted for 32%. Asia Pacific and Japan contributed 14% and 4%, $3

respectively.

RESOURCES FINANCIALS LEAD ACTIVITY - The Energy and Power sector was most active during the first nine

months of 2010, commanding 20.5% of announced M&A, while the Financials and Materials sectors accounted for
15.5% and 12.8% of M&A activity, respectively. Deals in the Financials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors have all
experienced double-digit percentage declines over the first nine months of 2009.

LARGEST QUARTER FOR PRIVATE EQUITY M&A SINCE Q208 - Worldwide private-equity-backed M&A activity
totaled US$149.7 billion during the first nine months of 2010, the largest opening period since the first nine months
of 2008. Accounting for 9% of worldwide announced M&A during the first nine months, private-equity-backed M&A
increased 116.2% compared to the first nine months of 2009. $0

Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) Deals Intelligence Asia (ex-Japan) Involvement Announced M&A by Target Industry

In the first nine months of 2010, Asian M&A reached US$308 billion, a 49.8% increase from US$205.6 billion recorded
in the same period last year and only 7.2% off the record volume registered for the equivalent period of 2008. The
largest deal for the region thus far this year was Bharti Airtel’s acquisition of Zain Africa for US$10.7 billion. Telecommunications

With 6 out of the top 10 deals, the Energy & Power industry accounted for US$65.7 billion in deal activity with a 21.3% 1/1/2010 - 9/30/2010
market share. Financials and Materials followed with US$57.7 billion and US$55.3 billion, respectively.

China cross-border activity amounted to US$55.5 billion, a 17.8% rise from the US$47.1 billion recorded in the same
period in 2009. Outbound activity reached US$35.8 billion, with US$13.3 billion being invested in the Energy & Power
industry. Inbound activity totaled US$19.7 billion. Real Estate

M&A activity in Australia totaled US$127.2 billion increasing by 10.6% from the US$115 billion recorded last year,
mainly due to BHP Billiton’s US$43.2 billion hostile offer for Potash Corp. This was the largest announced deal globally
for the first three quarters of 2010. Materials
