Minutes for SLA-Student Chapter Officers’ Meeting

Topics Discussed:
1) Tour ideas for Spring
Olbrich Gardens tour/Schumacher Horticultural Library with Lynn Jacobson

2)Organizational Goals for Spring Term

-What have we accomplished for fall?
• Special Collections tour had good attendance with about 12 students.
• Mel has been attending state chapter meetings
-We may wish to bring in speakers to SLIS, a panel was successful in the
Corporate and Specialized Library course last summer.
-The group should cultivate student leaders for next year.
-Virtual meetings were somewhat unsatisfactory last year,
-We could start with the panel librarians and then hold a formal group meeting
and hold one more meeting to tour a specialized library.
-Possible panelists for February 15:
• Molly Hamm-Cogdell Spencer
• Possible librarian from USGS (Chris Marsh?)
• UW Foundation Librarians
-The group will invite state chapter members to the panel

3)SLA-SG Finances
-The group shall verify funding from state chapter ($150 annually should be
garnered from submitting organization activity records)
-Bank fees have been charged to the account and have been depleting funds. We
will need to verify charges and possibly move account if penalty stands for having low
funds.
-Mel will create report to submit to state chapter. The report should include group
sponsorship of SLIS activities and Mel’s attendance in the SLIS leadership meeting.

4)Meeting to recruit next year’s officers

-Formal meeting for interested students should be held in March.
-Anne reports that she has been involved with an East Madison librarian group
and, after they hold a formal meeting, they will discuss promoting the group to
SLIS/SLA-SG students.

5)Final meeting for spring-Library tour

-Mid-April would be a good plan, before end of semester commitments for
students.
