Proposed criteria: reducing disparities, cultural competence, improving  social and built environments and health, cost-effectiveness in promoting healthy eating and active living, community acceptability, feasibility of implementation, potential for improving the local food system and built environment and tie with regional efforts/policy, sustainability, and other measures of best practice.●Ask communities what they need to improve their food and fitness environments●Determine which types of assessments are available and which can be done in the selected communities given current resources●Determine who will do the assessments and when● Prioritize assessments● Conduct assessments● Create opportunities for dialogue about diversity● Identify ways to engage diverse community members from the focus communities● Arrange meetings, events, and celebrations in the community, to accommodate needs for childcare, meeting times, and languagetranslation as needed ●Define the questions we want to ask through the assessments about improving access to local, healthy, affordable, sustainable foods●Define the questions we want to ask through the assessments about improving access for physical activity●Determine what types of assessments are available and which can be done given current resources●Determine who will do the assessments and when they will be completed ●Prioritize assessments●Conduct assessments
 How do we talk about food & fitness?
 Determine neighborhood information collection venues (businesses, health clinics, schools, etc.)
 Determine key organizations, both secular and faith-based 
 Determine most effective, current, methods of communication (media, social networks, schools)
Consult with STEPS, Public Health, other collaborations,etc.regarding communication strategies and models for other, similar  scale, projects to determine best practices
