Since January, Collier and Lee counties began setting older cases forreview before magistrates, senior judges and case managers toresolve pretrial problems and move them to resolution. Charlotte,Hendry and Glades are also planning similar reduction efforts.
The goals are ambitious and seek to reduce pendingforeclosure cases by 60% and older civil cases by 10-20% inone year. Some of the key strategies of the program are:
All homestead foreclosure cases filed on or afterJuly 15, 2010 will be referred to the ConantMediation Center;As of July 1, 2010 part time magistrates and senior judges will be added to assist with the effortsalready underway in expedited foreclosure docketsand civil backlog reduction in Collier, Charlotte andLee Counties;Older backlogged foreclosure and civil cases will beset for trial and case management conferences toresolve delay issues;New circuit case management time standards andprocedures to establish early case managementplans will go into effect in January 2011.
