These Japanese American children were living at the Jerome Relocation Center in Dermott, AR, in 1944. They continued to try to have a normal life, attending school where their fourth-grade teacher, Miss Era Nixon, helped them plan and operate a cooperative valentine store. The venture was very successful and over 8,000 valentines were sold. Each child made a profit of 40 cents on his or her original investment of 63 cents.
