Dark Pilgrim, a Poetic Novella, by Frater Pyramidatus

A novel based on the idea that Aleister Crowley faked his own death. The vicissitudes of the plot however turn it into a romance ultimately. 41 000 words. A great read that would make a cool movie. I recommend persisting past the first five pages, it is a difficult book, and a victim of it's own success in that it is 'literature' rather than a 'novel' for everyone. Indeed you would probably have to be a Thelemite to get the most of it. Enjoy. NB - I am an idiot, I have just discovered on the 16th March that there is another book with the same title. So I am going to go back to the previous title of 'Mythopoeia', which is also a paper by Tolkien but nevermind. Apologies to the writer of the 'Dark Pilgrim' series of SF books, don't worry I'll change the title before it goes to print!! ; ) Expect an audio book, by myself, before Xmas 2011.

PreludeThe events of Crowley's funeral were aremarkably motley yet reverent affair. Unlikemany other more mainstream ceremonies thetable of events followed a less Christian formulathan might be expected in such a small Englishtown. Genuine tears flowed amidst an arena ocontrived poetry, as little can compete with thedistillation of such doubtful sobs. A strange pamphlet was distributed during the eventsporting some of Crowley's finer poems.Posterity would forever rest that however the old poet's guardian angel was, or is, that on the day, belonging to the old codification of the oldchurch, St. Luke, a figure from the good book, that might have forgiven old Aleister some of his transgressions; or maybe no. It is no odds,we can only rest assured that Crowley would nothave wished to offend more than he already had.We pass into pure poetry, we are theunacknowledged legislators of mankind; and allthat makes man noble is his speech. Let uslisten to the sounds of Sunday, and indulge in afaculty that promotes peace.2

1“This kind of nonsense is not going to soundgood to
my
superiors.”Harsh words rained down from thecomputer field, directly contrasting the relaxeddemeanour of the icy shadow fulminating them.A crew of darkly clothed individuals awkwardly prevaricated over the statement.“Sir…” Letizia interjected. She was cutshort in a manner that could only be described asformulaic.Do not insult my intelligence bymaking the same lame excuses.”The gang of sinister characters grovelledthrough silence, and churned about fearfully, transfixed to the com point by the invisibletentacles of authority. Only Leonardo was
 pretending
to be scared, the rest of the cabal being genuinely petrified. The man dominating the screen was onlyapparent from an acute angle, slouched on anarmchair, with only a sardonic slice of side profile visible. Tendrils of tobacco smokespiralled about him betraying no inkling onatural breeze. He extinguished the dark cigar, holding an eerie silence for an icy and ominousmoment.3
