WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF RAINFALL?

• Rainfall may occur around the year

The main features of Britani’s rainfall can • The west receives more rainfall ( also receive
be described as follows. more rainfall in winter )
• July is often the wettest most in the east.

Relief SIMILARITIES : warm , moist air

TYPES OF RAINFALL Frontal forced to rise and cool.

Convectional
DIFFERENCES : what causes , or
forces , the warm air to rise.

Relief rainfall , process :

1) Warm air causes water in the sea to evaporate.

2) Warm air and water are forced to raise.
3) Rising air cools to dew point , the air is very saturated.
4) Condensation , clouds formation.
5) Further cooling causes precipitation.

Frontal rainfall : Is the result from the meeting of a warm mass of air and
a cold mass of air. The boundary between the two air masses are called
front.

• As warm air is lighter than cold air , it’s forced to raise over the cold.
Air cools to dew point condensation gives cloud and rain.

Convectional rainfall : Is caused by the sun

heating the ground , turn , warm the air. As the
warms airs is forced to raise in strong upward
convection currents .The water on the ground
will evaporate will also rise. As the warm air
rises, it cools and often gives thunderstorms.
