ANNEXANNEX IVCONSTRUCTION STANDARDS FOR STEEL FISHING VESSELSPART 1
Construction standards apply to single hull, steel vessels of conventional shape operating atmoderate speed; that is up to a maximum of 15 knots. Vessels of unusual design or shape andthose operating at higher speeds will require special consideration by the competent authority.
2 Design categories
2.1 These construction standards are based on the division of vessels into appropriate designcategories, the categories indicate sea and wind conditions for which a vessel is considered to besuitable, provided that the vessel is correctly operated and at a speed appropriate to the prevailingsea state. Design categories are defined in 1.1.12.
3 Construction standards
3.1 The appropriate standards of construction for steel vessels shall be determined as set outin the table below:Design category Part 1 Part 2 Part 3A
3.2 Vessels fitted with sails should be considered to operate in categories C1, C2 and D onlyunless given special consideration by the competent authority.
4 Construction standards for steel vessels of all design categories4.1 Materials
4.1.1 During construction of the vessel documents should be kept to demonstrate that thematerials used are of shipbuilding quality and have certificates issued by a Classification Societyor a Maritime Administration and with at least the following properties:
Minimum yield stress 240 N/mm
Tensile strength 410 N/ mm
Ultimate strain 22%.4.1.2 The materials used should be dry and free from corrosion.4.1.3 All plates used should have a mean thickness which at least corresponds to the nominalthickness of the plate.
