three times – at 8, 9, and
10 – -but that didn’t stop
the Ladycats. At one point
Aledo had a 15-12 lead on
the Lady Pirates. With a jolt
from seniors Christa Daniel
and Brown, the Ladycats
pulled in front to an 18-17
lead following two ties from
Granbury at 15 and 17.
“If they can do it, we can
definitely do it,” Brown said
to stay motivated.
But this wasn’t playoff
volleyball for nothing.
The Lady Pirates tied the
match at 18 with a 13-sec-
ond volley and then began
to steal the match away from
Aledo for the second con-
secutive battle.
Granbury was one point
away from a match two vic-
tory when they led Aledo
24-23, but a Lady Pirate win
wasn’t on the agenda for the
contest. Aledo tied the match
at 24 and took a 25-24 lead.
Now it was the Ladycats who
were one point away, but
again the match was evened
out by Granbury.
Now it wasn’t a battle
of the better team, it was
a battle of who would pull
through. Fans on both sides
were screaming, shouting,
and stomping the bleachers.
Aledo got ahead 26-25
and then it came the final
serve. The Ladycats pre-
vailed and evened out the
game 1-1.
“The chemistry of this
team, lit up right here,”
Jacobs said.
Match 3: Aledo 25,
Granbury 17
The Lady Pirates only led
the match for a total of three
points and they all came
early on.
For the third match in a
row, Granbury scored first
and after Aledo tied it up
1, the Lady Pirates led the
Ladycats 2-1, 3-1 and 3-2,
but call it pride, call it deter-
mination or the shear ambi-
tion to not lose that brought
Aledo back after a 24.6 vol-
ley tied the match at three.
After that Aledo would
not have to worry about
being behind for the rest of
the match.
Granbury tied the match
three more times, but kills
from Sharratt and Jacbos
and steady serves from
junior Hannah Loftin gave
the Ladycats the opportunity
to run away with the match
and win by eight points 25-
17.
Match 4: Aledo 25,
Granbury 18
This was it.
Would Aledo pull ahead
and win the game?
Or would Granbury even
it out the game 2-2?
Aledo tied it up twice in
the Lady Pirates’ only lead-
ing portion of the match.
Granbury blew a 5-3 lead
which allowed the Ladycats
to come back, tie the match
at 6 and take the victory.
After Aledo broke the 6-6
tie, Granbury couldn’t climb
back to regain any lead or
even out the score.
The closest the Lady
Pirates got to regaining
control came when the
Ladycats had a 13-10 lead
and Granbury battled to be
within one of Aledo at 13-12.
The Ladycats climbed to a
23-16 lead that eventually
lead to Sharratt’s match and
game-winning kill.
“Bri was unbelievable at
the net at times putting the
ball down when we needed
her to,” Goings said. “Losing
the first match and com-
ing back and struggling in
that second match and then
finally getting some momen-
tum and keeping it through
the third and fourth (match)
– I knew they had it in them,
I knew they had it in them.”
And if God was answering
prayers last night, it was clear
that he received Sharratt’s in
the nick of time.
“I prayed (before the
match) and God just helped
us get out here and play our
best and we won,” Sharratt
said. “We work hard and
play for Him.”
