team, that while they pos-sess considerable talent intheir chosen athleticendeavor, are not great rolemodels in other aspects of their lives. Then there are those whoembrace the responsibilityof being a positive influenceand help to guide theirteammates in the properway. It makes it even morespecial when such athletesare team captains. The latter is the case forthe Hackettstown HighSchool boy’s basketballprogram this season. TheTigers have three captains,Mike DeLorenzo, MattReynolds and Zach Arconawho are very dependableand set a good example forthe rest of the student-ath-letes on the roster.DeLorenzo and Reynoldsare seniors, while Arcona isa junior for the Tigers.Head coach MikeMcDonagh is pleased withthe way the captains haveconducted themselves onthe court, and more impor-tantly, in the classroom.“They are three kids whodo an excellent job of lead-ing by example,’’McDonagh said. “Not onlyare they really good basket-ball players, but they'reeven better students in theclassroom.’’In the early going thiswinter-through the firstweek of January in fact-Reynolds was averaging 13points and nine rebounds agame. Arcona had an aver-age of nine points and eightrebounds at the same junc-ture.
