Ministry Training Event
By Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
Vol. 3 No. 3 January 27, 2011
I know agreat churchin anotherstate full of committedChristians. They havea healthy worshipattendanceand some very committed members. However, Iheard one of the members complaining thatthey were frustrated because there were somany meaningful ministries they could bedoing as a church, but were not. It soundslike they needed a challenge. A challengeto do more ministry, reaching out in Christ’sname. But how?Great ministry doesn’t just happen. It takes planning and hard work. Andpeople coming together to get the job done. Another member of a church in OklahomaCity called me and wanted to talk aboutBreakfast on Boulevard. He wanted tostart something like it at his church. AfterI spoke glowingly of all the things goingon at BOB, he was overwhelmed. Howcould we possibly get all that going? Thatmany volunteers, that much food, allthose donations? As I told him, it takescommitment, hard work and carefulplanning. By the way, thanks to all those who make that happen!A great opportunity for training oursaints in the church is coming up soonthrough our Regional Church. The 2011Leadership Training School is happening onSaturday, February 5 at the First ChristianChurch in OKC (yes, the big domed churchoff of Broadway Extension. That day willoffer a myriad of classes designed to trainour members in planning and implementinggreat ministry. From youth and children’sministry workshops, to training for eldersand deacons, outreach, stewardship, movies, puppets and Biblical studies, thereis something for about any interest in thechurch. More information and a listingof the classes is available on the Regionalchurch website, okdisciples.org.The good news is that the event isfree to members of our church. We paida church fee, so just mention you are fromFCC Edmond, and the welcome will beextended to you. Let’s keep doing greatministry together.
