elcome to the Monthly presentation organised by theDissemination Branch of the Central Statistical Office (CSO). TheCSO embarks on vigorous information delivery strategy to majorstakeholders and the media institutions in order to increaseutilisation of statistical products and services. The office producesa number of statistical products in the Economic, Social,Agricultural and Environmental areas. The information collectedin these areas may be used for various purposes including policyformulation, planning, implementation, monitoring andevaluation of programmes and projects.This Monthly publication is an attempt to provide highlights ofCSO’s work and how it can help media institutions and thegeneral public to make use of data and information forsustainable national development and decision-making.I would like to urge our readers and users of statistical informationto send to us any comments that may enhance statisticalproduction and contribute to the improvement of this bulletin.John Kalumbi

2010 Census of Population and HousingPreliminary Results
 Zambia records a population of 13,046,508 persons, 2010Census Preliminary results reveal!
According to the preliminary results from the2010 Census of Population and Housing, thepopulation of Zambia has increased to 13,046,508 persons from 9,885,771 persons in theyear 2000. Of the 13,046,508 persons,6,394,455 (49 percent) were male while6,652,053 (51 percent) were female.

Results also show that 7,978,274 persons (61 percent) were in rural areas while 5,068,234 (39percent) persons were in urban areas.

At provincial level, Lusaka had the largestpopulation with 2,198,996 persons, followedby Copperbelt with 1,958,623, Northern with1,759,600, Eastern with 1,707,731 andSouthern with 1,606,793 persons. The provincewith the least population was North-westernwith 706,462 persons. Western Province had881,524 while Luapula had 958,976 persons.

Eligible Voters
The Census results further show that therewere 6,069,753 total number of eligible voters(i.e. any person aged 18 years and above) in2010 representing 47 percent of the totalZambian population. Results show thatLusaka Province had the highest share ofeligible voters at 19 percent followed byCopperbelt Province at 17 percent whereasNorthern and Eastern provinces had 12percent of eligible voters each. Southernprovince had a share of 11 percent; Centralprovince had 10 percent while Luapula andWestern provinces had 7 percent each. Theprovince with the least share of eligible voterswas North-western Province with 5 percent.
