Histona Ulterior™ is the new and improved

“Histona.” The new product increases the
dosage of Magnolia bark and supplies two additional herbal
synergist factors, Dan Shen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) and Chinese
Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis). It is designed to provide a broad
spectrum of cell normalization support, stress relief and anti-
oxidant protection.
Description/Background
Magnolia Bark
Magnolia is a traditional Chinese medicine used since ancient
times for tension, fatigue and digestive disturbances caused by
emotional stress.
Recent studies have shown that the two main components of
magnolia, the anti-oxidants honokiol and magnolol, have a wide
variety of beneficial effects on stress, immunity and metabolism.
• Stress relief:  The honokiol in Magnolia bark has been shown
to possess mild but non-sedating anxiolytic (anti-anxiety)
activity at low doses. Magnolia can help to relieve stress
symptoms without causing drowsiness. Newer claims are
emerging, however, to link magnolia’s anti-stress benefits
with control of cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone.
Cortisol imbalance has been associated with obesity, diabetes,
osteoporosis, memory problems, and suppressed immune
function.
• Anti-oxidant and brain health:  The magnolol and honokiol
components of Magnolia officinalis are one thousand times
more potent than alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) in their
antioxidant activity. Other research groups have shown both
magnolol and honokiol to possess powerful “brain-health”
benefits via their actions in modulating the activity of various
neurotransmitters and related enzymes in the brain.
• Metabolic effects:  Magnolia’s effect on cortisol is just one
of the ways that this amazing herb can help to enhance
healthy metabolic and immune function. Magnolia has
also been shown to reduce allergic reactions and the herb
is also an effective inhibitor of AGE (Advanced Glycation
Endproducts).
Histona Ulterior also features two synergistic herbs:
Chinese Skullcap Root (Scutellaria biacalensis)
Chinese skullcap root has a cell-regulating effect and encourages
efficient removal of metabolically compromised cells, which have
become dysfunctional, either through age or malformation.
Histona Ulterior is designed to provide a broad spectrum of cell
normalization, enhance cognitive function, metabolic support,
anti-oxidant protection, and achieve relief from occasional stress.
As such, it occupies a prime place in Dr. D’Adamo’s nutritional

Its flavonoid is a member of the mint family and has long been
used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine, as a digestive aid,
and to normalize an over-active digestive system. Scutellaria
has been shown to decrease inflammatory cytokine production
from human mast cells (immune system hormones which ramp
up inflammation). Scutellaria also has a cell-regulating effect;
encouraging the body to more efficiently remove cells which have
become dysfunctional, either through age or malformation. (2)
Salvia miltiorrhiza Root
Salvia has been used to support healthy heart function as well as
for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Tanshinone IIA is a derivative of phenanthrene-quinone isolated
from Salvia miltiorrhiza, which is a traditional herbal medicine that
is used to treat cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies showed that
Tanshinone IIA possesses cytotoxic activity against many kinds of
human carcinoma cell lines, induces differentiation and apoptosis
and inhibits invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. Its mechanisms
are thought to inhibit DNA synthesis and proliferation of cancer
cells, regulating the expression of genes related to proliferation,
differentiation, and apoptosis, inhibiting the telomerase activity
of cancer cells, and changing the expression of cellular surface
antigen. (3)
Betaine HCl
Betaine hydrochloride is a gastric activating cofactor. Betaine
hydrochloride is a stomach-acidifying, important cofactor and also
a digestive enzyme. (4) Betaine hydrochloride is a non-essential
nutrient and a source of hydrochloric acid, a naturally occurring
chemical in the stomach that helps digest food by breaking up fats
and proteins. In particular, Betaine HCL is necessary for adequate
absorption of protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and iron. It is also
known as hydrochloric acid and stomach acid. The low pH of the
stomach’s hydrochloric acid also destroys ingested bacteria and
microorganisms.
