INTERACTION BETWEEN

LIVING ORGANISMS
Types of interactions between living organisms:-

a) prey-predator

b) symbiosis
 commensalism
 mutualism
 parasitism

c) competition
PREY-PREDATOR
• A predator is an animal that hunts and eats
other animals (prey).
• A prey is an animal which caught and eaten by
a stronger animal.
• Example:- lion as a predator
- zebra as a prey
SYMBIOSIS
There are three different categories:-

i. commensalism
 interaction between two different types of
organisms in which one organism benefits
(commensalism) while the other organism is
neither help or harmed (host).
 Example:- remora fish and shark
- money plant
ii. Mutualism
 Interaction between two different organisms that
benefits both.
 Example:- fungus and moss
- bee and flower
iii. Parasitism
 Interaction between two different types of
organisms where one organism benefits
(parasitism) and the other is harmed (host)
and may be even die.
 Example:- tapeworm and human
- mosquito and human
COMPETITION
 interaction between two individuals or two
population living in same habitat to compete for
basic needs such as:
 food
 water
 shelter
 light
 mate
BIOLOGICAL CONTROL
• The natural way to control the number of pests by
using its predator in an area.
• Do no affect other good organisms in the habitat and
do not attract other unwanted predators or animals.
• Example:- owl (predator)
- mouse (pest)
