Ideas, Hopes, Plans, Dreams Welcome

If you want to help protect and preserve our community and plan for its future,
please consider running for the Board of Directors.
There will be three vacancies on the LMOA Board of Directors in June. If you want to help make decisions that will
directly affect the quality of life in our community, both now and in the future, please consider becoming a
candidate. The election is part of the 39th Annual Meeting, which will take place on Sat., June 25, but you must
complete the petition process that is already underway. Petition packets and assistance are available to help you
understand and perform the petition process by calling Communications Manager Peggy Alexander at 589-8263,
ext. 111. Deadline for completed petition packets to be returned to LMOA is 5PM on Mon., March 28.

“What It Means to Be a Director” is currently running on cable channel 10(977) at 9AM and 7PM daily through Wed., Feb.
9. If you are a prospective Board candidate or a resident who wants to know why members serve on the Board of Directors, don’t miss
this informative program. President Scott Meiss and hosts outgoing directors Mike Harrison and Ray Gott and former director Ed
Seroskie sharing their experiences and talking about the rewards of community service.

Member Proposal Petition Packets Available: Members with ideas they would like presented for member vote at the
annual meeting must go through the LMOA petition process. Proposals also must meet Bylaw requirements on what is appropriate for
member vote. For more information or to pick up a member proposal petition packet, call Communications Manager Peggy Alexander
at 589-8263, ext. 111. The deadline to file completed packets is 5PM on Mon., March 28.
Congratulations, Lake Monticello: Recycling continues at 38% of material collected each month, according to SDI.

Community Fishing Pier Update: The contracting process is underway for materials to construct the fishing pier. If all goes
as planned, the pier, which will be accessible to all, is scheduled for construction this spring, hopefully prior to the Kid’s Fishing Day in
May. If you have not yet made a donation toward the pier, you still can do so. Donations will be accepted at the fishing seminar on Feb.
21, or you can send your donation of any size to Bo’s Pier Group, 265 Turkeysag Trail, Suite 102, #130, Palmyra, VA 22963. Make
checks payable to LMOA, marked for the “pier fund.” To volunteer to help with the construction of the pier, go to
http://sites.google.com/site/lmoafishingpier/, click on Volunteer Questionnaire, and follow the instructions. For more information,
call (703) 582-4398.

Completion of Operations Building Basement: At the Jan. 27 Board of Directors meeting, the General Manager was
authorized to use the entire amount of $12,500 that was earmarked in the 2011 budget to complete work on the lower level of the
Operations Building. The project was approved in December as a new initiative with funding from property transfer fee funds.
Completion of the space will double the Police Department workspace, with addition of a training, conference and emergency
operations center, officers’ squad room, secure storage and the electronic infrastructure to relocate the gate system from the
Administration Office at some later date. The Police share the main level of the Operations Building with the Environmental Control
operations.
Are You Interested in Television Production?
The LMOA Broadcast Group will meet on Tues., Feb. 8, at 7:30PM in the Faulconer Room. If you are interested in volunteering for one
or more television production jobs, such as a director, switcher, camera or audio operator, producer/host or general electronic support,
come visit with the Group on Tuesday as it goes through its upcoming schedule of programming and works on other aspects of the
broadcast operation. If you’re interested but can’t attend the meeting, contact Co-chairs Ron Krauss at (434) 589-5209 or
rakrauss@embarqmail.com, or Jerry Steffel at (434) 589-6418 or jhsteffel@yahoo.com.

Spring Cleanup Is Coming Soon

Watch for information and dates on the upcoming Spring Community Yard Sales and the arrival of dumpsters for disposal of items too
large for regular trash pick up.

What to Do with All those Leaves: The Environmental Control Committee has alerted residents through
the Friday Flyer that it will be citing homes with drainage culverts and ditches that are clogged with leaves. While
you’re cleaning up your culverts and ditches, here is the solution to where to put the leaves.
Please remember that, for the health and well being of our watershed, leaves should not be raked, blown or
dumped into ditches, streams, ponds and lakes. LMOA recommends that leaves be used on the lot where they fell,
either whole, shredded or composted, to protect and nourish plantings, but there are alternatives: The leaf disposal site is open daily
inside the fenced area at Tufton Lake for residents’ use only. Do not dump tree branches or other yard debris, Christmas trees or
household trash at this site. (Please empty bags and take them for reuse.) SDI will pick up not more than five bags of leaves per
household each week. If there is space in the trash cart, please place bags inside. If not, place bags about two feet from the cart. The
cart must be present so the driver can hoist the bags into the truck.

Environmental Control Citation Notice

y Outdated holiday decorations: The ECC advises that it has begun writing citations for Christmas, Halloween and other outdated
exterior holiday decorations.
y Clogged ditches and culvert pipes: The ECC already is citing residents who have leaf and debris blocking ditches and culverts.
y For information, call the ECC office at (434) 591-0196.
