ΚΤΡΙΑΚΗ ΙΖ΄ΜΑΣΘΑΙΟΤ (Ματθ. 15:21-28) 6 Υεβρουαρίου 2011

Σό ε὎αγγελικό ἀνάγνωσμα ἀναφέρεται στήν Φαναναία πού εἶχε μεγάλη καί

ἀμετακίνητη πίστη στήν παντοδυναμία τοῦ Φριστοῦ. Ἡ πίστι της
ἀπεδείχθηκε βράχος ἄσειστος καί ἡ θέλησή της ἀπό σκληρό γρανίτη. Ἡ
πίστη τῆς Φαναναίας τοῦ σημερινοῦ Ε὎αγγελίου, ἔγινε τό παράδειγμα
πίστεως σέ ὅλες τίς γενιές μέχρι σήμερα. Ἡ γενναία καί ἀμετακίνητη στάση
της στίς πολλαπλές προκλήσεις καί πιέσεις τῆς κοινωνίας τῆς ἐποχῆς της,
δέν ἔκαμε ἁπλῶς τό θαῦμα τῆς θεραπείας τῆς δαιμονιζομένης κόρης της,
ἀλλά τήν ἀπέδειξε ἡρωῒδα πίστεως ὅλων τῶν ἐποχῶν.
Οἱ ἗βραῖοι τήν λοξοκύτταζαν σάν μιά ξένη καί ἄπιστη. ΢άν μιά
εἰδωλολάτρισσα πού ἔκανε φασαρία μέ τίς φωνές της. ΢άν μιά ἁμαρτωλή
Φαναναία, ὅπου οἱ σχέσεις ἗βραίων καί Φαναναίων δέν ἦταν ἀπ’τίς
καλύτερες. Οἱ Ἀπόστολοι τήν ἔβλεπαν σάν ἐμπόδιο στόν Διδάσκαλο πού
ἐδυσκόλευε τήν πομπή καί γιά νά σταματήσει τήν ἐνόχληση, εἶπαν στόν
Φριστό νά τήν θεραπεύσει. Μέ τίς φωνές της καί τήν φασαρία πού κάνει, θά
ξεσηκώσει τόν κόσμο εἶπαν οἱ μαθητές πού ἔβλεπαν τήν ἐπιμονή της. Σότε
ὁ Φριστός τούς κύτταξε καί σέ α὎στηρό τόνο τούς εἶπε: «὇ σκοπός γιά τόν
ὁποῖο ἦλθα, εἶναι νά βοηθήσω τά χαμένα πρόβατα τοῦ Ἰσραήλ».
Ἡ Φαναναία ξεπέρασε τόν ἑαυτό της σάν γυναίκα πού ἦταν, ξεπέρασε τόν
οἶκτο τῶν ἗βραίων τήν ἐχθρική στάση τους, καί τόν ἐμπαιγμό τους.
Ξεπέρασε τῶν μαθητῶν τοῦ Φριστοῦ τήν πίεση νά μή πλησιάσει τόν
Διδάσκαλο. Ξεπέρασε τήν ἄρνηση τοῦ Φριστοῦ ὁ ὇ποῖος εἶπε ξεκάθαρα ὅτι
ἀπεστάλει μόνο γιά τήν βοήθεια καί σωτηρία τοῦ περιούσιου λαοῦ τῶν
἗βραίων καί πλησιάζοντας, ἔπεσε στά πόδια τοῦ Φριστοῦ. Ἔπεσε στά
γόνατα καί μέ ε὎λάβεια ἅπλωσε τά χέρια της καί ζήτησε τό ἔλεος τοῦ Κυρίου.
«Κύριε βοήθει μοι.» ΢τό σημεῖο α὎τό ἔπεσε ὁ μεγάλος κεραυνός. Ἦταν τά
λόγια τοῦ Κυρίου: «...οὔκ ἔστι καλόν λαβεῖν τόν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καί βαλεῖν

τοῖς κυναρίοις΄» Καί ἀμέσως ἀπεροφήθει ὁ τρομερός κεραυνός ἀπ’τό
ἀλεξικέραυνο τῆς πίστεως τῆς Φαναναίας: «...ναί Κύριε, καί γάρ τά κυνάρια
ἐσθίει ἀπό τῶν ψιχίων τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπό τῆς τραπέζης τῶν κυρίων
α὎τῶν.» Σότε ὁ Φριστός δέν μποροῦσε παρά θαυμάζοντας νά τῆς πεῖ: «ὦ
γύναι, μεγάλη σου ἡ πίστις! Γενηθήτω σοι ὡς θέλεις, καί ἰάθη ἡ θυγάτηρ της
ἀπό τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.»
Ἡ Φαναναία τοῦ σημερινοῦ Ε὎αγγελίου, ἀναμφίβολα ὏πέφερε ἀπό τόν πόνο
πού τῆς προκαλοῦσε ἡ ὀδυνηρή κατάσταση τῆς κόρης της. Σό ὅτι ἡ κόρη
της δαιμονιζόταν καί κτυπιόταν καί κινδύνευε νά σκοτωθεῖ ἀπ’τά κτυπήματα
πού εἶχε ἀπό τήν ἐπίδραση τοῦ πονηροῦ, φαίνεται ὅτι εἶιχε πονέσει
ἀφάνταστα τήν Φαναναία. Ὅταν πῆρε εἴδηση ὅτι θά περνοῦσε ἀπό τά
σύνορά τους ἖κεῖνος πού ἔκανε μέχρι νεκραναστάσεις, ἔτρεξε νά μοιρασθεῖ
μαζί Σου τόν πόνο της. Ἡ ἴδια δέν εἶχε δεῖ ποτέ τά θαύματα τοῦ Φριστοῦ,
ἀλλά εἶχε ἀκούσει τόσα πολλά γι’ Α὎τόν πού δέν εἶχε τήν παραμικρή
ἀμφιβολία. Ὅταν βγῆκε ἀπό τά σύνορα τῆς περιοχῆς, φώναξε μέ ὅλη τήν
δύναμη τοῦ πόνου τῆς καρδιᾶς της γιά τό παιδί της. «Κύριε, ἔνδοξε ἀπόγονε
τοῦ Δαβίδ, ἐλέησόν με, ἡ θυγατέρα μου κατέχεται ἀπό δαιμόνιον καί
὏ποφέρει φρικτά.» Εἶχε πάρει τήν ἀπόφαση νά μήν ὏ποχωρήσει μέχρι πού
νά κάνει τό θαῦμα του ὁ νέος Διδάσκαλος. Καί τελικά α὎τό ἔγινε. Ἡ
὏πομονή της, ἡ ἐπιμονή της, τό θάρρος της ἡ ταπείνωσή της καί προπαντός
ἡ πίστη της, ἔκαμαν τό θαῦμα τους.
Δέν πρέπει νά μᾶς διαφύγουν τά λόγια τοῦ τελευταίου στίχου τοῦ σημερινοῦ
Ε὎αγγελίου: «Γενηθήτω σοι ὡς θέλεις,» Ἄς γίνει ὅπως θέλεις». ἖φ’ ὅσον
διαθέτεις τόση πίστη, ὄχι μόνο τά δαιμόνια θά φύγουν ἀπό τήν κόρη σου,
ἀλλά καί στό βουνό ἄν πεῖς νά μετακινηθεῖ ἀπ’τήν θέση του καί νά πέσει
στήν θάλασσα, θά γίνει.

΢ήμερα ἀδελφοί μου ἔχουμε ὄχι Φαναναῖες, ἀλλά χριστιανές ὀρθόδοξες
μάνες, πού ζοῦν οἰκογενειακά δράματα πιό τρομερά καί ἀπό ἐκεῖνο τῆς
Φαναναίας, ἀλλά δέν ἔχουν τήν δύναμη νά νικήσουν τόν ἑαυτό τους. Δέν
μποροῦν νά ξεπεράσουν τίς κοσμικές συνήθειες καί ἀντιξοότητες, ἀλλά οὔτε
καί τόν ἴδιο τόν Φριστό δέν πιστεύουν. Πῶς ἐξηγεῖται ὅμως α὎τή ἡ ἀδράνεια;
Δέν συμπονοῦν οἱ σημερινές μανάδες καί πατεράδες στόν πόνο τῶν
παιδιῶν τους; Δέν συγκινοῦνται ἀρκετά ἀπό τό δρᾶμα τους, γιά νά
ζητήσουν στά γόνατα τό ἔλεος τοῦ Κυρίου ὅπως ἡ Φαναναία; Ὕστερα ἀπό
τόσα θαύματα τοῦ Φριστοῦ, ὅπως καί τήν δική Σου τριήμερο ἔγερση πού
ἐμεῖς γνωρίζουμε σήμερα, γιατί δέν πιστεύουμε; Μήπως ἐλαττώθηκε ἡ
δύναμη τοῦ Φριστοῦ μας καί δέν μπορεῖ νά κάμει τό θαῦμα; Ἄραγε τί φταίει;
Ἀδελφοί μου νά εἶστε ε὎λογημένοι, σήμερα δέν γίνεται τό θαῦμα, διότι δέν
μᾶς ἀφήνει ὁ ἐγωϊσμός. Μπορεῖτε νά φαντασθῆτε τί θά γινώταν ἐάν στίς
μέρες μας τολμοῦσε κάποιος κληρικός, ἄς ἦταν καί Πᾳτριάρχης, νά πεῖ σέ
κάποια πού ζήτησε βοήθεια, ὅτι εἶναι σκυλάκι; ΢ίγουρα ὄχι. Εἶναι κάτι πού
τουλάχιστον γιά τούς δαιμονόπληκτους ἐγωϊστές τῆς ἐποχῆς μας εἶναι
ἀδιανόητο. Προτιμοῦν νά ὏ποφέρει τρομερά, ἀκόμη καί νά πεθάνει τό παιδί
τους ἀλλά ποτέ δέν θά δεχθοῦν νά τούς ἀποδώσουν ἔτσι δημοσίως τήν
μομφή ὅτι εἶναι σκυλάκι. Πῶς λοιπόν περιμένουμε νά γίνει τό θαῦμα; Γιατί
κἄν διερωτώμεθα γιατί σήμερα δέν γίνονται θαύματα; Καλά δέν τά ζοῦμε
α὎τά καθημερινά; ἖δῶ ἐάν τολμήσει ἕνας πνευματικός –πού ἔχει κάθε
ποιμαντικό δικαίωμα-νά μή κοινωνήσει ἕναν ἄνθρωπο πού δέν μετάνοιωσε
καί ποτέ δέν ἐξομολογήθηκε γιά φανερές καί θανάσιμες ἁμαρτίες, ἀλλοίμονό
του.
Ἀγαπητοί ἀναγνῶστεςς τοῦ μικροῦ α὎τοῦ Υυλλαδίου μας, ἡ κατάσταση τοῦ
σημερινοῦ ὆ρθοδόξου λεγομένου πιστοῦ, δέν ἔχει τήν παραμικρή ὁμοιότητα
ἀπό ἐκείνη τῆς Φαναναίας τοῦ Ε὎αγγελίου μας. Μπορεῖ νά μοιάζει μέ τά
πλήθη πού ἀκολουθοῦσαν τόν Φριστό καί Σόν ἐπευφημοῦσαν τήν μιά μέρα

καί τήν ἄλλη φώναζαν νά Σόν σταυρώσουν. Μέσα στούς αἰῶνες ἔχει
ἀποδειχθεῖ ὅτι ἡ ὀρθόδοξη χριστιανική πίστη δέν ἔχει ἀνάγκη ἀπό
ἀνεμοδεῖχτες ἀλλά ἀπό γρανιτένιους βράχους ὅπως τῆς πίστεως πού
διέθετε ἡ Φαναναία.
Σό σημερινό μήνυμα τοῦ Φριστοῦ μας εἶναι νά πάρουμε τό παράδειγμα
α὎τῆς τῆς πονεμένης γυναῖκας καί νά τό βάλουμε σέ ἐφαρμογή στήν
καθημερινή μας ζωή. Νά ξεφύγουμε ἀπό τήν κοσμική ὀρθολογική πίστη καί
νά ἐφαρμώσουμε τήν ὏περλογική πίστη τῆς Φαναναίας. Νά ἀπαλλαγοῦμε
ἀπό τήν δικαίωση πού μᾶς προσφέρει ὁ κόσμος καί νά καταφύγουμε στήν
δικαίωση πού προσφέρει ὁ Κύριος. Μόνο τότε θά μπορέσουμε νά
ἀκούσωμε τά λόγια τοῦ Κυρίου: «Φριστιανέ τοῦ 21ου αἰώνα, μεγάλη σου ἡ
πίστη, ἄς γίνει εἰς σέ ὅπως θέλεις.» ΑΜΗΝ.
17th SUNDAY OF MATTHEW (Matt. 15: 21-28) 6th February 2011
The gospel reading today presents us with the Canaanite woman with
great, unshakable faith in Christ’s omnipotence. Her faith was shown to be
an immovable rock and her will as hard as granite. The faith of the
Canaanite woman in the gospel is an example of faith for all Christians of
every generation, even today’s, to follow. Her brave uncompromising
stance in the face of the many provocations and pressures of society of her
time, did not only produce the miraculous healing of demoniac daughter,
but also proved her to be a heroine for all time.
The Jews considered her to be a faithless foreigner, an idolatrous trouble
maker yelling and making noise. As a sinful Canaanite, her relationship
with the Jews was not the best. The Apostles saw her as an obstacle
blocking their Teacher’s progress through the crowds, and in order to put an
end to the disturbance they asked Christ to send her away. The Apostles
thought that her persistent yelling would cause the crowds great disruption.

At this Christ looked at them and with a strict tone told them: “The reason
that I have come here is to help the lost sheep of Israel”
The Canaanite surpassed herself as a woman, she surpassed the Jews
with their hostile stance, and their ridicule. She surpassed Christ’s disciples
and their demands to leave their Teacher alone. She surpassed Christ’s
denial, who clearly stated that he was sent only to help and save the
chosen Jewish people, as she approached Him and fell at His feet. She fell
onto her knees and stretched out her hands as she devoutly asked the Lord
for mercy. “Lord, help me” At this point a bolt of lightning struck, they were
the Lord’s words: “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to
the little dogs” And immediately this terrible lightning bolt was neutralised by
the Canaanite’s faith as she answered: “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs
eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Christ, with
admiration, said to her: “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as
you desire.”
The Canaanite woman in today’s Gospel, without doubt, suffered from the
pain caused by her daughter’s terrible state; her daughter possessed by
demons would fall down with seizures and her life endangered by the
beating she received at the hands of the devil. This hurt the Canaanite
woman unimaginably. When she found out that He who was even able to
raise the dead was passing by nearby, she rushed to Him to share her pain.
Even though she herself had not witnessed any of Christ’s miracles, she
had heard so much about Him that she was left without even the slightest
doubt. When she came close to the area that Christ would pass by, she
began to shout: “Lord, glorious son of David, have mercy on me, my
daughter is possessed by demons and suffers terribly.” She had made the
decision that she would not relent until the young Teacher performed the

miracle. And this indeed is what occurred. Her patience, her persistence,
her courage, her humility, and especially her faith caused this miracle.
Let the words of the final verse of today’s Gospel not escape us: “Let it be
to you as you desire.” “Let things occur as you wish, since you have so
much faith, not only will the demons leave you daughter, but if you were to
tell a mountain to move from its place and fall into the sea, then this would
also occur.”
Today brethren, instead of Canaanites, we have Orthodox Christian
mothers who unfortunately live family dramas even more terrifying than that
of the Canaanite mother, and yet do not have the courage to overcome
themselves. They cannot overcome the worldly habits and insecurities, and
not only in Christ Himself do they have faith. How can this spiritual
sluggishness be explained? Are modern parents indifferent to the suffering
of their child? Are they not sufficiently moved by their drama to fall to their
knees and ask the Lord for mercy as the Canaanite did? After all of Christ’s
miracles, and even His own resurrection on the third day which we all know
about, why do we still doubt? Perhaps His power has diminished and He is
unable to do miracles anymore? What else could be concluded from this
position?
Brethren be blessed. Today this miracle would not have been performed
because our egotism gets in the way. Can you imagine what would happen
in our days, if a priest even a Patriarch calls a woman that asks for help, a
little dog? Of course not. This is something that even the most selfish
people of our times will find it inconceivable. They prefer to suffer terribly,
even for their child to die, rather than to be publicly called a dog. How then
do we expect miracles to occur? Don’t we experience them every day?
Here, if a spiritual father dares, in spite of having every spiritual right to do
so, to deny Holy Communion to someone who has never repented and has

never been to Holy Confession for obvious and deadly sins, then woe to
him.
Dear readers of this little periodical that we have prepared, the state of
today’s so-called faithful orthodox Christians has not even the smallest
similarity with that of the Canaanite in today’s Gospel. They may be like the
crowds who surrounded Christ and praised Him on one day but on the
following shouted for His crucifixion. Through the centuries it has become
clear that the Orthodox Christian faith has no need for people who change
with the wind, but rather wants granite boulders with the same faith that the
Canaanite woman possessed.
Today Christ’s message to us is to follow the example of this suffering
woman and to put it into action in our everyday life; To surpass the beliefs
of this world, and fight to support the faith of the Canaanite woman; To rid
ourselves of the justifications offered by the world and to take refuge in the
Lord’s judgment. Only then will we be able to hear the Lord’s words:
“Christian of the 21st century, your faith is great, let it be done as you
desire.” AMEN

ἐβἀπτισαν εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας τό χαριτωμένο ἀγοράκι τους. Ἡ ἀνάδοχος
δίδα Δήμητρα Ἀθανασούλη τοῦ χάρισε τό ὄνομα Ἀδάμ. Ε὎χόμεθα στούς
γονεῖς τοῦ νεοφωτίστου νά τό χαίρωνται, στήν δέν ἀνάδοχο ε὎χόμεθα
φώτιση ἀπ’τόν Θεό, γιά νά συμβουλεύει τόν νεοφώτιστο καταλλήλως.
Ἀρχιερατική Θεία Λειτουργία
Σήν περασμένη Σετάρτη τῆς Ὑπαπαντῆς τοῦ Κυρίου, ἱερούργησε εἰς τόν
Ἱερό Ναό μας ὁ Θεοφιλέστατος ἖πίσκοπος Δορυλαίου κ.κ. Νίκανδρος,

βοηθούμενος ὏πό τοῦ πατρός ΢ταύρου Χαρομμάτη καί τοῦ πατρός
Θεοδώρου Γρεβέλη. ὇ Θεοφιλέστατος ὡμίλησε ἐπικαίρως καί ε὎λόγησε
ἐλαφρό πρωϊνό στήν αἴθουσα τοῦ Κέντρου μας.

Σό ἗λληνικό Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ, σκοπό ἔχει τήν προώθηση τῆς ἑλληνικῆς
κουλτούρας, τῆς γλῶσσας καί τοῦ ἑλλληνοχριστιανικοῦ πολιτισμοῦ. Σήν
διατήρηση τῶν ἑλληνικῶν παραδοσιακῶν χορῶν, τῶν φαγητῶν, τῆς
μουσικῆς καί τῆς ὏γιοῦς ψυχαγωγίας.

κουλτούρα, ὥστε τά παιδιά καί τά ἐγγόνια μας, νά συνεχίσουν νά
διασκεδάζουν ἑλληνικά, νά τρέφωνται, νά τραγουδοῦν καί νά χορέβουν
ἑλληνικά δίχως νά ντρέπονται καί παράλληλα νά ζοῦν χριστιανικά
κι’ὀρθόδοξα.
Σό ἗λληνικό Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ, θά λάβει χώρα τό ΢άββατο τῆς
Ἀπόκρεως, 26 Υεβρουαρίου 2011 ἀπό τίς 5μμ. μέχρι 10.30μμ, στό
ε὎ρύχωρο προαύλιο τῆς Κοινότητος τοῦ Προφήτη Ἠλία, 87Beulah Road
Norwood. Ἡ τετραμελή ὀρχήστρα Ζορμπᾶ μέ τήν βοήθεια μουσικῶν τῆς
ὁμογενείας μας, ἔχουν ἑτοιμάσει ἕνα ὏πέροχο πανηγυρικό πρόγραμμα γιά
ὅλους μας. Εἴσοδος δωρεάν γιά ὅλους.
΢τό ἗λληνικό Υεστιβάλ Νόργουντ θά βρῆτε:
Πλούσιο μενοῦ ἀπό ψητά, μεζέδες καί νοστημιές κάθε λογῆς.

἗λληνική σαλάτα, τυρόπιττες, σπανακόπιττες καί καλαμπόκι.

Λαχταριστά γλυκίσματα, παγωτά, λουκουμάδες καί διάφορα εἴδη καφέ.

἗λληνικοί λεβέντικοι χοροί ἀπό διάφορα συγκροτήματα. Προσοχή: ἖κτός

τοῦ χορευτικοῦ συγκροτήματος τοῦ Νόργουντ, θά χορέψουν, τό χορευτικό
συγκρότημα τῶν Μεσσηνίων, τῶν Λημνίων, τοῦ Ἁγίου Δημητρίου, καθώς
ἔχουν κληθεῖ νά χορέψουν σερβικά καί ἄλλα χορευτικά συγκροτήματα.

἖πίσκεψη, γνωριμία καί περιήγηση τοῦ ὆ρθοδόξου Ἱεροῦ Ναοῦ.

Περιήγηση στό μοναδικό ἗λληνο-Α὎στραλιανό Μουσεῖο τῆς Ἀδελαῒδος.

἖λᾶτε νά ἀπολαύσετε ἕνα ε὎χάριστο ἀπόγευμα καί βραδάκι, κάτω ἀπό τίς
πυκνές φυλλωσιές τῶν δένδρων, μέ λίγο κοκκινέλι καί ρετσίνα. Μέ ζεστούς
καί νόστιμους μεζέδες. ἖λᾶτε νά ἀναπολήστε γιά λίγο τά πανηγύρια τῆς
πατρίδας ὅπως τ’ἀφίσαμε. ἖λᾶτε νά πάρετε μαζί μας μιά βόλτα στήν πίστα
ἤ κάτω ἀπό τά δένδρα, ὅσο κρατοῦν τά πόδια μας.

Σό ἗λληνικό ΢χολεῖο τῆς Κοινότητος-἖νορίας Προφήτη Ἠλία

἖φέτος ὅπως εἶναι γνωστό ὅλες οἱ τάξεις τῶν ἗λληνικῶν μας σχολείων θά
στεγαστοῦν στίς δικές μας σχολικές αἴθουσες, πίσω ἀπό τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας.
Σά σχολεῖα μας προσφέρουν ἄνεση, ἀσφάλεια, ἐλευθερία, προστασία καί
ποιότητα. ΢τήν συνέχεια ἀναφέρουμε τήν ἡμέρα Ἁγιασμοῦ, τήν ἡμέρα
ἐνάρξεως, καθώς ἡμέρες καί ὥρες λειτουργίας. ὇ Ἁγιασμός ἐνάρξεως τοῦ
σχολικοῦ ἔτους, θά λάβει χώρα εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας τήν Κυριακή 6η
Υεβρουαρίου 2011 καί στό πέρας τῆς Θείας Λειτουργίας. Σήν Σρίτη 8η
Υεβρουαρίου θά ἀρχίσουν τά μαθήματα γιά τούς μαθητές/τριες πού
ἐπέλεξαν τό Δημοτικό σχολεῖο τῆς Σρίτης. Σήν Παρασκευή 11η
Υεβρουαρίου γιά μαθητές/τριες πού ἐπέλεξαν τήν Παρασκευή καί τό

΢άββατο 12η Υεβρουαρίου γιά μαθητές/τριες πού ἐπέλεξαν τό ΢άββατο. Σό
Γυμνάσιο ἀρχίζει τήν Πέμπτη 10η Υεβρουαρίου.
Σό πρόγραμμα λειτουργίας τῶν σχολείων μας ἔχει ὡς ἔπεται: ἗κάστη Σρίτη
ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία μέχρι 7ον ἔτος, 4.00μ.μ. – 7.00μ.μ.
συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. ἗κάστη Παρασκευή ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία
μέχρι 7ον ἔτος, 4.00μ.μ. – 6.30μ.μ. συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. Ἕκαστο
΢άββατο ἀπό προσχολική ἡλικία μέχρι 7ον ἔτος, 9.00π.μ. – 12.00 τό
μεσημέρι συμπεριλαμβανομένου χοροῦ. ἗κάστη Πέμπτη θά λειτουργεῖ τό
Γυμνάσιο 4.00μ.μ. – 6.00μ.μ. Ἀκόμη κάνουμε γνωστό ὅτι κι’ἐφέτος τά
μαθήματα τῆς ἑλληνικῆς γλῶσσας καί ἑλληνικῶν χορῶν εἶναι δωρεάν. Μόνο
τά βιβλία τους θά ἀγοράσουν καί θά συνισφέρουν ὅτι θέλουν στό ἐτήσιο
Γουώλκαθον τόν Ἰούλιο καί τήν ἐτησία σχολική χοροεσπερίδα τόν
΢επτέμβριο.
Ἱερές Ἀκολουθίες
Α὎τή τήν Σετάρτη 9 Υεβρουαρίου καί ὥρα 6 τό βράδυ, θά λάβει χώρα εἰς
τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας ἡ ἀκολουθία τοῦ ἗σπερινοῦ μετά ἀρτοκλασίας, εἰς μνήμην
τοῦ Ἁγίου Φαραλάμπους, συμπροσευχομένου τοῦ Θεοφιλεστάτου
἖πισκόπου μας κ.κ. Νικάνδρου καί τοῦ Ἁγιορείτου Θεολόγου Μοναχοῦ
Ἰωσήφ Διονυσιάτου. ὇ Θεολόγος Μοναχός, θά μᾶς ὡμιλήσει γύρω ἀπό
πνευματικά θέματα τῆς ἁγιορείτικης πολιτείας. Εἶναι ε὎καιρία γιά ὅλους μας
νά ἐκμεταλευτοῦμε τῆς ἁγιορείτικης α὎τῆς ε὎λογίας πρός δόξαν Θεοῦ.
Σήν Πέμπτη 10 Υεβρουαρίου, ἀνήμερα τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἱερομάρτυρος
Φαραλάμπου, θά τελέσωμε εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας Ὄρθρο καί Θεία Λειτουργία
μετά ἀρτοκλασίας, ἀπό τίς 8 μέχρι τίς 10 περίπου τό πρωῒ.;

Ἀγρυπνία
Κάνουμε γνωστό α὎τή τήν Παρασκευή, 11 Υεβρουαρίου καί ὥρα 9 τό
βράδυ, θά λάβει χώρα εἰς τόν Ἱερό Ναό μας Ἀγρυπνία. ΢ᾶς πληροφοροῦμε

ὅτι α὎τή τήν φορά θά τελειώσει ἡ Θεία Λειτουργία στίς 12 τά μεσάνυχτα,
διότι ὁ Ἱερέας μας θά λειτουργήσει καί τό ΢άββατο τό βράδυ στήν ἀγγλική
γλῶσσα.
Θεία Λειτουργία στήν Ἀγγλική
Κάνουμε γνωστό ὅτι τό ἐρχόμενο ΢άββατο 12 Υεβρουαρίου, θά τελέσωμε
τήν Θεία Λειτουργία στήν ἀγγλική, ἀπό τίς 6-7 τό βράδυ. Παρακαλοῦμε
ὅλους, ἰδιεταίρως ὅμως τήν νεολαία, νά ἔλθουν καί νά συμμετάσχουν στήν
Θεία Λειτουργία.
News from our Community-Parish
Baptism
Last Sunday, the charming son of Mr Antony and Mrs Konstantina Pivato
was baptized in our Church. The godmother Miss Dimitra Athanasoulis
gave him the name Adam. May the parents of the newly-baptized rejoice in
him always close to God and may the godmother have enlightenment from
God to counsel him according to His will.
Episcopal Divine Liturgy
Last Wednesday Day of the Meeting of our Lord, His Grace Bishop
Nikandros of Doryleon officiated at our Church, assisted by Fr Stavros
Psaromatis and Fr Theodoros Grevelis. His Grace gave the homily and
blessed the light morning tea offered afterwards in our Community Hall.
Church Services
This Wednesday 9th February, Vespers with artoklasia in honour of St
Haralambos, 6 pm, officiated by His Grace Bishop Nikandros and the
Theologian Monk of Mt Athos Joseph Dionysiatos. The Theologian Monk
will speak to us on spiritual matters of Mt Athos. This is an opportunity for
all of us to receive a blessing from Mt Athos to the glory of God.
Thursday 10th February Day of the Great Martyr St Haralambos, Matins and
Divine Liturgy with artoklasia, 8 am – 10 am approx.

Vigil
This Friday 11th February, Vigil, 9 pm – 12 midnight. The service will finish
earlier than usual, as the Priest will be celebrating Divine Liturgy in English
the next day.
Divine Liturgy in the English Language
This Saturday 12th February, Divine Liturgy in English, 6 pm – 7 pm. We
urge everyone, especially the youth, to take part.
The Greek School of the Community-Parish of Prophet Elias
This year, as you are probably aware, all the classes of our Greek School
will be under our own roof, behind our Church. Our classes offer comfort,
security, freedom, protection and quality. Remember that lessons in Greek
language and dance are free. Only the books must be bought; other
contributions may be offered at the Annual Walkathon in July and the
Annual School Dance in September. All classes start this week.
The programme for classes in 2011 is given below:
Every Tuesday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 4 pm – 7 pm, including dancing.
Every Friday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 4 pm – 6.30 pm, including dancing.
Every Saturday: Pre-school – Yr 7, 9 am – 12 noon, including dancing.
Every Thursday: High School, 4 pm – 6 pm.
Parents who wish to enrol their children in our Greek School must do so as
soon as possible.
The Greek Festival of Norwood
The purpose of the Greek Festival of Norwood is to advance our Greek
customs, language, culture and Orthodox Christianity; the maintainance of
traditional Greek dancing, food, music and wholesome entertainment. The
Greek Festival of Norwood publicizes Greek customs so that our children
and grandchildren will continue unabashedly to eat, sing and dance the
Greek way and also live Christian Orthodox lives. The Greek Festival of

Norwood will be held on Saturday of Apokreas 26th February 2011, 5 pm –
10.30 pm. The four-piece band Zorba and other Greek compatriot
musicians have prepared a superb festival program for us all. Entrance is
free. At the Greek Festival of Norwood, you will find:
 Abundant menu of roasts, mezedes and all sorts of delicious things
 Greek salads, cheeses, spanakopites and sweetcorn
 Greek dancing by various groups - as well as our own Prophet Elias
dancing-group, the dancing groups of the Messenian Brotherhood,
Lemnos Brotherhood and St Demetrios will perform; and the Serbian
dancing-group and others have been invited, too.
 Games for children of all ages
 Greek fun in a happy, multicultural and family atmosphere
 Visits, explanations and tours of the Orthodox Church
 The only Greek-Australian Museum in Adelaide
Come and enjoy a happy evening in the shade of the trees, with a little
kokkineli and retsina and hot, delicious mezedes. For a little while,
immerse yourself in the festival of the motherland you have left; and
come, πἀμε βὀλτα with us for as long as our legs can bear!
Remember, we are expecting you all at the Greek Festival of Norwood.
Entrance is free for everybody.
N.B. Donation-boxes will be available for voluntary donations for assistance
in the Queensland floods.
Warm thanks
We thank everyone who has immediately offered help towards the success
of the Festival, donating various amounts to meet expenses. As people
who are interested in the progress of our festival are still coming forward
with offers, we shall print their names in a future Newsletter. Thank you to
those who have so far donated salads, vegetables, chips, tents, fridge for

drinks, fridge for souvlakia and other meat, olives and wine, two yiros
roasters, and toaster. We also thank those who thankfully are paying the
person who will entertain the small children, and all others who have given
money towards the various expenses of the festival. If there are still some
who could help with expenses for chairs, tables, sweetcorn and souvlakia,
then success is assured. Apart from His Grace who will bless the opening
