is one o the oundations o true aith. Astheologian Eugene Peterson translatesit in the Message, “turning your backon ‘salvation by sel help’ and turning intrust towards God” (Heb 6:1). However, our experience is that dead worksoten begin to pile up ater we becameollowers o Christ. hen we frst beganto ollow Jesus, we knew nothing exceptto receive and give. e talked about Jesuseverywhere, and God was at work bringing people to himsel. Then we began to listento, and then give, more and more teaching.Much o it was good, but the application was suspect. Consider the ollowing things, among many others, which areoten suggested as the main reasons weare not seeing a great spiritual harvest o souls in the western nations, like there isin China, India, or Latin America today.
1. AltAR of WoRsHiP.
They said, “The reason we are not seeing harvest is that we need to build an altaro worship so that the glory will all anddraw men and women to Jesus.” e wereradical and committed, so we worshiped, shouted, jumped, and danced. But, a greatharvest o souls did not come. Did we notunderstand that it was Christ in us, who was the hope o glory? Did we not see thatthis model o worship was a return to OldCovenant realities? God is not somewhere“out there” ready to all on us, but he isalready in us waiting to be expressed.
2. APostoliC AND PRoPHetiCAutHoRity.
They said, “The reason we are not seeing revival is that the church is out o order.e need to submit to the apostles andprophets.” e were radical and committed,so we submitted whole heartedly, and theapostles received our honour. But, a greatharvest o souls did not come. Did we notsee that Jesus is our apostle, and we are all brothers, riends, and servants? Did we notunderstand that leaders are not to “lord itover” others. Hierarchies can destroy lie, but riendship releases lie.
3. titHiNg AND giviNg.
They said, “The reason we are not seeing harvest and fnancial blessing is that weare not tithing and giving accurately.” e were radical and committed, so we tithed, gave, and believed or blessing. But, a greatharvest o souls did not come. Did wenot see that we were turning God into a legalistic, miserly accountant? Did we notknow God was a generous dad? Mandatory tithing is the church tax o the Old
