Mississippi Wing Participates in Wreaths Across America
The Mississippi Wing participated in the annual “Wreaths Across America” Ceremony onSaturday December 13, 2008 at the National Veterans Cemetery in Biloxi, MS. The eventhas become an annual special event across the entire country for the Civil Air Patrol. Chap-lain Major Ken Stevens served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event and the keynoteaddress was delivered by Capt. David “Hank” Rogers of the Col. Berta Edge CompositeSquadron in Biloxi. The Honor Guard for the ceremony was provided by the Gulfport HighSchool Marine Corps Junior ROTC.During the formal wreath laying ceremony, representatives of all Branches of the militaryand the Merchant Marines placed specially designed wreaths at the Veterans Memorial tohonor deceased members of their respective Branch. Several members of the MississippiWing of Civil Air Patrol served in support roles before, during and after the formal cere-mony. Many members assisted in the laying of wreaths on several gravesites of deceasedveterans. Chaplain Major Ken Stevens personally placed a wreath at the gravesite of his brother, MRCS Clyde Marvin Stevens, a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. Also at-tending the ceremony were several representatives of the Mississippi Patriot Guard Riders,a patriotic motorcycle club.
