Brief: To create the opening 2mins of a new feature film ‘Roadside’,

including titles and our company idents ‘Maroaders’ (Distribution), ‘FlatLine
Films’ (Production) and our original soundtrack.

‘Roadside’ is a Slasher film rated 15. Our target

audience is ranging from the ages to 15-24. Here is a

Synopsis: ‘Cherry Falls’ MEETS ‘Taken’
In our opening, we build up to the death of our Scream Queen ‘Casey’ one year after
the mysterious Langbar Road car crash. Our opening sees her leave her boyfriend
‘Sam’s’ house to begin her drive into the rural countryside. We track her in the car as
night falls; she is driving up over a moor side road before she sees a masked man
baring a knife standing in the road which causes her to swerve and crash, the killer
then approaches the car and brutally murders her...

Cast: Our three characters ‘Sam’ and ‘Casey’ and our unnamed killer are
played by James Crowther and Megan Claydon. They play both characters aged 17 –
20. James also plays our killer, but we do not reveal the mask to provide narrative
enigma.

Genre: A slasher film is described as a sub-genre of the horror genre. The

main codes and conventions that can found within the slasher genre is that there is
usually a psychotic masked killer stalking and systematically butchering a group of
young adults.

Mise-en-scene: We film on two locations, the first at a

large house in the countryside and the second on a moor side road in a
rural area. Our murder weapon is a bloody knife. This is one of the most
famous conventions in the slasher genre. Sam in the opening shots is
shown wearing a dressing gown whilst Casey is wearing a short skirt and
a top, they signify they’ve just been having sex. The killer wears a
blooded shirt and a black sack mask. We got our inspiration from ‘The
Strangers’.
