The President of the Republic of Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein this morning put up to
the Speaker U Khin Aung Myint of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw ( Union Parliament ) the names
of 30 ministers, who would be handling 34 ministries, state-owned TV announced at 6 pm
(MST) this evening.
In putting up the names of 30 ministers, President Thein Sein did not yet mention the
portfolios (Ministries) these ministers will be handling.
The list of these 30 ministers was headed by Lieutenant-General Ko Ko, former Chief of
Bureau of Special Operations (3). Some elected representatives, who attended today’s
session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw in Nay Pyi Taw said they assumed that Lt-Gen Ko Ko
would be given the post of Minister for Defence.
Number (2) man in the list is Major-General Hla Min, the current Chief of Bureau of Special
Operations (3). It is widely believed that Major-General Hla Min would be Minister for Home
Affairs.
Number (3) man in the list is Major-General Thein Htay, the current Chief of Ordnance of
Myanmar Defence Services. Thein Htay would become the Minister for Border Affairs, rep-
resentatives to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw predicted.
As for the fourth man in the list is U Wunna Maung Lwin, the current Ambassador/
Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. “U Wunna Maung Lwin would
certainly be Minister for Foreign Affairs,” representatives to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw said.
In studying the list of 30 ministers, it is found out that at least 10 ministers from the
previous cabinet again have become ministers though at this stage no one is assured
which portfolio they would be handling.
The regular session of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw was adjourned to February 11 this year. In ad-
journing this session, Speaker U Khin Aung Myint announced that on February 11, the Pyi-
daungsu Hluttaw would devote to any objection that may be raised by any representative
of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw against any or some of the ministers in the list put up by the
President.
