t is the beginning of a new year and as I sithere in front of my computer, I know I must
I
write something but the year 2010 has goneby so fast that it feels like it was just yesterdaythat I did this task for 2009 / 2010. Nevertheless,it is 2011 and looking back over the past year it isalmost impossible to understand everything thatGod did in such a short time and that was only forme. When I look back at the year 2010, I thought it wasthe worst year of my life and then God showed me allHe has done for me and that makes it the best yearever. He is worthy to be worshiped and praised and Ithank Him for the privilege to see 2011, I thank Himfor showing me how many friends He blessed mewith, I can carry on about His Goodness and Grace, but
this is not about me, it is about Eden TC
and Iknow that 2011 is going to be even a better year.Thank you to all that was involved in Eden TC overthe past year, we truly appreciate it and pray thatGod will reward you accordingly. I am excited aboutthis year, because we will be celebrating our 20thanniversary in December on the 16th tothe 18th. The celebrations will be aboutthe hope that God gave us when His SonJesus Christ died for us on the cross sothat we can have everlasting life if webelieve in Him and that Jesus is theanswer to all the life-controlling problemsand all other problems of this day and age.We can just look at the suicide figuresfrom the countries where God is notaccepted as a solution to all problems. In December during our 20th anniversarycelebration, we hope to have differentpersonalities, national and internationalas speakers. We plan to have a fleamarket, to feed the hungry and to praiseand worship GOD for carrying and leadingus for the past 20 years. It will be a busy year for us with many visitors due to visitus before the celebrations. We trust inGod to provide the finances that we willneed for all the traveling and other costs.I also want to make use of thisopportunity to thank all staff andleadership of Eden TC for theirdedication and hard work and love for thestudents and patience during 2010. I alsowant to thank God for the wonderfulpeople that He has surrounded me with. Ialso want to say thank you to Jana, mywife, for all her support during my illnessand operation. I know that I am not theeasiest person in this world to please; Ilove them all with the love of God. I praythat each one of them will be blessed inthe New Year and that God will give themstrength to fulfill their tasks. Yours in ChristPastor Herman Viljoen

Dlamini, I amone of the people whogot the opportunity tobe brought up by EdenTeen Challenge, for six years since 1995 to2001, at one stage in mylife. In 1995 I was onlyeleven years old. It allbegan in 1995. Due to the fact that my single mother was willingbut unable to provide food for both of us because she was notworking, I found myself walking the streets of Bethlehem lookingfor food. I met another boy who became my friend. My friendand I used to sit next to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) store inBethlehem opposite fruit and vegetable store called ThreeMountains and begs for money from KFC customers to buy food. Then one day, Pastor Herman Viljoen came through to KFC storeand found me and my friend sitting there next to KFC store. Ilearned his name at a later stage. As usual I walked to him to begfor money, he did not offer me money instead said he would likeme and my friend to come and stay with him at Eden. Since we(my friend and I) both did not like the kind of life we lived on thestreets, we then decided to go with him with the hope that ourlives will become better. And certainly it changed for the best.Pastor then took us to Eden and left us in the hands of PastorJohan and Carol Esterhuyse. There are so many things Eden Teen Challenge contributedtoward my development as an individual. However, I have twomost important things that I want specifically to thank Eden for.Firstly, I want to thank Pastor Herman Viljoen who personallybrought me out of the streets where I used to be a street-kidand took me to Eden and the fact that Eden put me to school.Secondly, I want to thank Pastor Johan and Carol for instillingChristianity principles and values in me, a treasure that does notrot. I don’t even want to think about where I would have ended upif Eden did not offer me that opportunity to become a betterperson. Above all, I want to thank God for showing his love andmercy to me by bringing Eden on my way. I am sharing this with you because I managed to pass my grade 12 with merit andsecured myself a bursary to study at a university of my choice. Iam currently studying Bsc Metallurgical Engineering at theUniversity of the Witwatersrand. One of my favorite scripturesis from the book of Revelation 2:7 (The Revised English Version),it says “… when he opens doors, no one can shut it and when heshuts it, no one can open it." I understand the relevance of thisscripture in my life because God has opened the world ofeducation for me, which has begun to bring the best out of meand make me a better person. In conclusion, if God was able to doall these things for me, I am one hundred percent sure that hewill not fail to do the same for others because he is the God whotakes care of his children. We just have to trust in the unfailinglove God.
Something the Lord made

t is with a grateful heart and so much emotion that I write this very first edition of our contribution towards theNewsletter. God has truly been good to us the last year. He has performed so many miracles in the lives of not only our
I
residents, but also the people who share in the vision that it is God's will that no one should perish, but all should haveeternal life. Every month we highlight a few donors (because of space limitations) who have answered God's call. So many peoplehelp in their own special way and to you we say thank you. This year is going to be a big year in Eden Teen Challenge, our 20thBirthday celebrations, the various projects that need to be completed and more souls to be led to Jesus.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
t was really nice to see a community joining hands onceagain to make December a special time for the residents
I
of the Ministry. Over this period we had an average of95 residents and only 1 was not here on Christmas day.On 17 December 2010 Piet de Wet and his friends came andgave us a wonderful lunch. Every single resident got a presentand a wonderful time was had by all. From all of us we'd like tosay thank you and pray that God will bless you. Then on 23 December 2010 another surprise hit the Ministry.Coca Cola really went to town to entertain the residents. Theybrought one of their special event trucks and some of theresidents got an opportunity to display their singing talents.Well, what can we say, there were cold drinks galore, sweets, candy floss, and in the end everyone got a nice little cooler bag, filled with sweets, etc. We don't have enough words to thank you guys. We haven't had this much fun in a long time.As in previous years, Kloppers again sponsored our Christmaslunch this year. The residents almost stood in utter disbeliefwhen we started to dish. There was everything that one couldwish for on a Christmas table. Well, they even gave eachresident a present. Thank you for the wonderful work that youdo in our Ministry.t the time of writing we had 20 kids in the creche. When we started we had no chairs, tables, mattresses, stationery. All we knew was that God cares about little
A
children and doesn't want to see them hurt. We had to getthese little ones off the street!!! We started with 3 kids andprayed that more parents would send their children .On 23December 2010, Coca Cola once again stepped in and donatedtables, chairs, stationery, mattresses, a fridge, DVD’s, toys, etc.e know the background of these children and wantto ensure that they live a healthy life style. Their
W
parents are not by means to give them a balancedmeal. Also we have babies in nappies and we just didn't knowwhere the next nappies were going to come from. Its alwaysbeen a principle of the Ministry that each resident shouldalways have roll on, soap, toilet paper, shampoo, toothpaste, cream, etc.I told you earlier that I am so emotional writing thiscontribution. God again performed miracles and the Dis-Chemgroup has undertaken to sponsor the Ministry with R5000-00per month for a year. We can go into their stores now and getall the necessities for all the residents and supplements forthese kids. On behalf of every single person who is currentlybenefitting and those who will benefit, we say thank you formaking people see that there are still people who care.Should you want to get involved in this or any of the otheractivities of the Ministry, please contact us on 051 430 5769.
