Newham University Hospital NHS Trust expects tosave over £18,500 per year with NightWatchmanfrom 1E
Deployment of advanced PC power management on the Trust’s computers will see a reducon of 143 metric tonnes of
, which equates to 264,552 KWh of electricity and deliver ROI in less than a year!
Following the deployment of a new soware distribuonplaorm, Microso System Center Conguraon Manager(SCCM), the NHS Trust decided to amplify the potenalfor further savings by deploying a power and patchmanagement soluon.
Power & Patch Management from 1E was chosen as it wasconsidered the most t-for-purpose soluon.
Projected savings of over £18,500 per year, year on year.“One month in and we were already saving approximately
£1,250 per month across just the PCs which had had the
agreed power policy applied. In just one year, we stand tosave over £18,500 but also reduce our carbon emissionsby approximately 143 metric tonnes a year. These savings, coupled with a shi in awareness and behaviour amongstour sta to turn o lights and equipment when not inuse, were some of the keystone reasons behind our beingawarded the Greenest Hospital 2010 award.”

Harnessing savings from Power & Patch
The combined power and patch management soluon of NightWatchman version 6.0 and WakeUp from 1E was deployed inJune 2010. The 1E soluon was considered the most robust andcongurable soluon for a 24/7/365 paent care environment. Itsght integraon with Newham University Hospital’s new sowaredistribuon plaorm, Microso System Center Conguraon Manager(SCCM) added further management benets and increased the overalleciency of IT.Power state informaon from all PCs on which the NightWatchmanand WakeUp soware was deployed was gathered for a fortnightfollowing the implementaon. Collecng power state informaoninvolves tracking and recording computer acvity as well as the energyusage of each individual PC. NightWatchman uses built-in intelligenceto understand the power usage of a single PC based on its specicmake and model number - in Newham’s case, a combinaon of FujitsuEsprimo E5720 and E5730 and Dell GX620 machines. The soware alsoulises informaon specic to energy taris charged by EDF Energy, the Trust’s energy provider, (in this case £0.07 per kWh of electricity),for the most accurate and comprehensive view of power use availableon the market today. The informaon collated was then made visibleto the NHS Trust in the form of at-a-glance esmated power and costsavings reports within the NightWatchman console.
