Scientist & Program Director, Satellite NavigationProgram and also Deputy Director (Digital & Communication Area) atISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore.
He joined Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1971, after a brief tenure at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Dr. Pal pioneered theMicrowave & Antenna activities at the ISRO Satellite Centre at the inception.He has been responsible for the development & fabrication of all spacecraftrelated telecommunication systems for India

series of spacecraft. Dr. Pal isalso responsible for pioneering satellite based navigation activities in India.
.He is spear heading the Indian Satellite Based Wide AreaAugmentation System
GAGAN (GPS Aided Geo AugmentedNavigation System) and Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System(IRNSS) activities for civil aviation for civil & restricted usersrespectively. GAGAN Technology Demonstration Phase has beensuccessfully completed and Final Operation Phase has been taken up.He has been consultant to: (I) INMARSAT/ICO (UK) for LEOSATdefinitions, responsible for the development of Satellite Hand HeldTelephone Antenna System for ICO (UK) (ii) InternationalTelecommunication Union (ITU) for defining Regional African SatelliteCommunication System and (iii) Nanyang Technological University,Singapore on X-Sat. He was also Chairman of InformationInfrastructure Working Group of Ministry of Information TechnologyHe is also on the United Nations panel of experts on Global NavigationSatellite Systems (GNSS) and Chaired/participated in various UNmeetings at Vienna, Geneva and at other international venues.
Dr. Pala Distinguished Fellow of IETE, Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian National Academy of Sciences, Fellow IEEE(USA),MAMTA(USA), MASI, has received more than a dozen national and internationalawards, including, Performance Excellence Award by ISRO, DistinguishedAchievement Award for launching Aryabhata, Om Prakash Bhasin Award , HariOm Ashram Vikram Sarabhai Award, IEEE Third Millennium Medal, Prof. S NMitra Memorial Award (INAE), Om Prakash Bhasin Award, Vikram SarabhaiAward, Four National Research and Development Corporation of India inventionawards for various developments, inventions and overall contributions towardsthe growth of communication and space technology in India. He has also given courses on Communication Satellites at IndianInstitute of Science, Bangalore under Proficiency Scheme and extensivelydelivered lectures/talks/colloquiums & Symposiums on Microwaves, SpaceCommunications, Satellite Navigation Systems & Antennas in India and abroad.He was Co-convener of International Radar Symposium (IRSI) 2005,2007 &responsible for starting International Microwave Symposium and arrangingInternational Symposium on Measurements & Robotics ISCMR(2004,2006,2008), Bangalore.
His fields of interest are Microwave Communications, SpaceTechnology, Electromagnetics, Antennas and Satellite Navigation.
