San Juan County 2011 Property Tax Levy Changes

The San Juan County Assessor’s Office has certified the tax levies and levy rates for 2011 taxes.
Overall, there was an average increase of 9.1% in rates, primarily due to increases in the state
levy and each of the local school levies. San Juan and nearby smaller islands also share an
increase due to the emergency services levy. The state levy accounts for an average of 42.8% of
the property taxes paid by county taxpayers. School levies are submitted to the assessor by the
Northwest Educational Service District 189 and the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The San
Juan Island Emergency Medical Services levy was approved by voters on February 9, 2010.
