What is AAD/SPEED program?

These are several competitive special programs providing targeted developmental education and/or broadening
developmental assignments for officers in eligible career fields.

What specific programs are included?

AAD Masters and Ph.D programs including:


Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)
AFIT Faculty Pipeline
U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA)
Faculty Pipeline and National Reconnaissance Office sponsored programs)

Other programs:
Acquisition & Intelligence Experience Exchange Tour (AIEET)
Acquisition & Logistics Experience Exchange Tour (ALEET)
Comptroller Operational Logistics Tour (COLT)
Education With Industry (EWI)
Info Officer Engineering Exchange (IOEE)

It varies each Academic Year (AY). A representative list of AFSCs considered in AY11 includes the following Air Force

How do I apply for this program?

Every year, usually around March, the Academic and Special Utilization Branch at the Air Force Personnel Center publish
the available AAD/SPEED Selection Process Guide. The guide includes the names of available programs, detailed
application process/guidance. It also includes a nominal timeline for the entire program.

Do I have to be released by my officer assignment team (OAT) to compete for these programs?
Yes. Your OAT must release you to compete. If selected for any AAD or SPEED program in this message, assignment
acceptance and declination procedures will apply IAW AFI 36-2110 (Assignments), as well as any Force Management
provisions.

When are AAD/SPEED applications due?

It varies each year and per program, however, most are due by April 30 each year. Certain AFSCs (16G/32E/& 6XX)
usually have until June 30 to apply; 21X officers have until 30 September. The annual AAD/SPEED guide (see link below)
contains the specific suspenses for applications.

When are AAD/SPEED selections normally announced?

Selection results are usually published by Oct. 31 for all AFSCs except for 21X applicants, Logistics Career Broadening
Program (LCBP). The 21X selections are released two and a half months later, usually by mid-January.

If selected for an AAD/SPEED program, when will I move?

The timeline for movement of officers under these programs is based on numerous factors including time-on-station
(TOS), and Date Eligible for Return from Overseas (DEROS), if no training is required. If training is required, officers will
PCS according to training availability. All participants incur applicable ADSCs.

magnifying glass icon (search button). Look for the 2011 AAD/SPEED guide and click on the link provided. Each year’s
guide is kept online until replaced by the following year’s guide to allow those individuals interested in the program to
get detailed program descriptions, eligibility criteria, etc.
