Chargers Defeat Kellogg on Sophomore Day

PLYMOUTH – The Ancilla College men’s basketball celebrated Sophomore Day in style, claiming an
exciting 78-71 victory over Kellogg Community College on Saturday at the LifePlex.

Appropriately, it was the sophomores who set the tone for Ancilla (5-17, 4-10 MCCAA Western).
Antonio Cannon led the Chargers with 27 points – including an array of dunks – while fellow
sophomore Ellis Cole put in a solid effort with nine points and nine rebounds against the Bruins (11-
14, 6-8 MCCAA Western).

The victory avenged an 89-70 loss for Ancilla earlier in the year at Battle Creek, MI.

“Our two sophomores stepped up and made big plays for us,” said Ancilla men’s basketball coach
Greg Neeley. “Ellis was very effective on both ends of the floor while Antonio played with great
offensive pace and let the game come to him. It was great for them to play well on Sophomore Day.”

Joby Renbarger posted a double-double for Ancilla with 14 points and 11 boards while Michael
Hornback added 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the winning effort.

One particularly important key to the victory, according to Neeley, was Ancilla’s ability to win the
rebounding battle over a highly athletic Kellogg team.

“Kellogg is a very athletic team, and we were able to keep their offense away from the rim,” said
Neeley. “We also did a much better job of finishing our defensive stops with a rebound.”

Both Cannon and Cole were honored before the game for their contributions to the men’s basketball
program.
The Chargers resume play on Feb. 22 when they travel to Centreville, MI, to play MCCAA Western
Conference rivals Glen Oaks Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.

Ancilla College is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Donaldson, Indiana
sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
