WHY TELL STORIES?

-Reports about the past. We need to know where we’ve been in order to go ahead to where we’ll
be. Family history, important events, things we don’t want to forget. We need to HONOUR
MEMORIES of those before us.

-Pure Entertainment. We need to laugh, cry, feel inspired…stories can make hardships
disappear.

-Explain the Unexplained. We can’t explain a lot of what happens in our world. We use stories to
fill in the blanks.

-To communicate wisdom. We use stories to educate people and give them faith in things they
don’t understand and to make better communities. Stories can teach lessons.

WHAT TYPES OF STORIES ARE THERE?

We are looking at three types of stories:

-CREATION STORIES (where did we come from?)

-TRICKSTER STORIES (why do weird and funny things happen)
-HOW COME? STORIES (why are things the way they are?)
