Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) spent most of his career teaching at theUniversity of Freiburg. He is best known as the author of
Being and Time
and
Discourse on Thinking.
His many other influential works include
Iden-tity and Dzfference, Introduction

Metaphysics, What Is Called Thinking,
and
Poetry, Language, Thought.
Joan Stambaugh, professor emerita of philosophy at Hunter College ofthe City University of New York, has translated a number of works

Heidegger, including
