Dear Parish Family and Friends,

The other day, I came across a little book: The Little Way of Lent: Meditations in the Spirit of
St. Therese of Lisieux by Father Gary Caster. I was drawn to it because Therese is our patron
and Lent is approaching.

As I read the introduction, I knew it was just the reminder I needed. Lent is not a morbid
season to wallow in our sins, but a time to grow in love. As Therese struggled with her own
vocation and was reading St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians she was struck by the words
ending the 12th chapter: “But strive for the greater gifts.” The Apostle Paul then goes on to say
that all the other gifts: teaching, prophecy, faith, working of miracles, wisdom, speaking in
tongues, and preaching, are nothing without love. Love is the excellent way that leads most
surely to God.

As we as individuals and as a parish take on added services and other activities we do well to
remember our patron’s wisdom. Doing all things for love is our vocation. May we increase in
it.
