celebratestheamazingcontributionsthatwomenmaketotheministryoHabitatorHumanityandtheincrediblestoriesowomenwhoholdtheiramiliestogetherallaroundtheworld.Iwasbornintoaamilyostrongwomen.Mygrandmother,MillicentFenwick,wasaNewJerseycongresswomanwhowaswidelyknownorhercommitmenttojusticeissues.ShedraedthelegislationthatresultedintheormationotheHelsinkiCommissiontomonitorcompliancewiththeHelsinkiAccordonhumanrights.Shechallengedmeatanearlyageto“beuseul”tothoseinneedinourworld.Isometimesmarvelatherlie.Shewasbornin1910thesameyearthatClaraZetkinoGermanyproposedtherstInternationalWomen’sDayand10yearsbeorethe19thAmendmentwaspassedintheU.S.,givingwomentherighttovote.Shelivedduringanerathatchangedthelivesowomendramaticallyinmanypartsotheworld,somuchsothatitishardtoathomtheconditionsunderwhichmanywomenlivetoday.oorequently,landtenureorwomenmanyowhomhavenoassets,noresourcesandnopowerisalmostentirelydependentonthemenwithwhomtheyareassociated.Awidowed,separatedordivorcedwomaninmanylocationsislehomelessbecauseshehasnorightstothelandonwhichshelives.YetinHabitat’swork,weseethepowerulspiritowomenwhocanovercomethemostdicultocircumstancestomakeliebetterortheirchildren.InAsia,womenorganizesavingsgroupsthatsupporthousingopportunitiesoreachmemberamily.WhennewhousingdesignsinBrazilresultedinwomennolongerhavingtospendmuchoeachdaycollectingwater,theladiesdevelopedanincomeproducingbusiness.AndarecentWomenBuildprojectinAricadrewgreatsupporttohelporphansandvulnerablechildren.Iwillalwaysbegrateulortheinuencemygrandmotherhaduponmylie.EverytimeIsawher,shewouldreciteMicah6:8romtheBible,aversethateplainsclearlyourcalltobejustandmerciulandtowalkhumblywithGod.Oenidentiedastheinspirationor
